About this listen

In this riveting novel from The New York Times best-selling author of The Paris Architect, a man in disgrace finds that digging up the past is the only road he can take.

Architect Douglas Layton has lost everything. The balcony of one of his beautiful music halls collapsed during a packed performance, killing dozens. Layton knows the flaw was not in his design; someone else must have caused the dreadful catastrophe. But with no proof and a hoard of furious Londoners screaming for blood, someone has to take the fall - and Layton finds himself facing a five-year prison sentence.

When he is finally freed, Layton is determined to start over. With a new name and identity, he takes a job as a set painter. But as Layton begins to discover dead bodies hidden within theater halls across London, it soon becomes clear something darker is chasing him.

When he unearths a clue that ties the bodies to the disaster that ruined him, he knows redemption is within his reach...unless the culprit gets to him first.

Good but not as good as Paris architect

After listening to Paris Architect, which was both a fantastic story and great narration, I found this book lacking. But it was still decent and would recommend with the caveat that the listener shouldn’t expect the same.

Narration made this a superb read

My first by this author. Story was good. Was a little slow in the beginning but before long I was hooked. The narrator made this an especially interesting story.

Don’t listen to negative reviews! Loved his prior book but this one is great. Definite worth reading!

Lesson in tolerance

Although not as good as The Paris Architect, this is still a good read. I enjoyed the historical information found throughout the novel and also how the hero learns to accept all the different types of people with whom he comes to work and live. Samuel Roukin does an excellent job on the narration. I highly recommend this book.

A miss...

I so appreciated The Paris Architect - thoughtful important story reminding us of all the ways fascism destroys, but this book? Confusing, tedious, unbelievable at times - yuck.
