About this listen

All sixteen-year-old Tommin wants is to make beautiful shoes and care for his beloved grandmother, but his insatiable need to steal threatens to destroy everything. Driven by a curse that demands more and more gold, he's sure to get caught eventually.

When mysterious Lorcan Reilly arrives in town with his "niece," Eve, Tommin believes the fellow wants to help him. Instead, Lorcan whisks him off to the underground realm of the Leprechauns, where, alongside Eve, he's forced to prepare to become one of them.

As Lorcan's plans for his "gold-children" are slowly revealed, Tommin and Eve plan their escape. But with Tommin's humanity slipping away, the fate-crossed pair has everything to lose unless they can find a way to outsmart a magical curse centuries in the making.

Wasn't able to enjoy it as much as I expected

I thought this would be an interesting twist to a leprechaun story. I just couldn't get into it.
The narration was good. Usually the reader is what causes me to lack interest in a book. But, for this one, it was something about the story itself.
I think back and feel all the right parts were there and I should have liked it, but just couldn't. I liked the start of the book. I am not sure, but I am guessing it dragged on and that was the cause of my disinterest.

The Gold-Son

This book came to me as a deal for the kindle from Amazon. Of course if they have the audio-book to go along with it, I will get that too! Gerard Doyle is a terrific narrator! He really made the story come alive!
Tommin was 16 years old and lived with his adoring granny. She tried to keep him on a good path in life, but he had such urges to steal gold, he just could not help himself. He had a great talent for making beautiful shoes and he loved to make them even though the man he worked/apprenticed for only wanted plain shoes made.
When Lorcan Reilly and his niece, Eve, came to town, Tommin got the opportunity to make the most beautiful shoes he had ever made. This impressed Lorcan and soon Tommin found himself taken from the only home he had known and was tricked into becoming the Leprechaun he was destined to be.
I enjoyed the characters of this book, especially Tommin and Eve. I loved seeing the potential in Eve and was shocked with some of the things that happened right before part 2. I am glad things worked out the way they did in the end.

Leprechauns

I enjoyed the perspective of a leprechaun fantasy genre. I’ve never read one so that was fresh.
It did get a little slow here and there but over all enjoyed it.
I don’t know if I would listen to it though if I knew what I knew about it now :)

Good for older kids and adults alike

This was an entertaining book to listen to and had the added benefit that I could listen around my kids and not be horrified at what they might hear

Human or Leprechaun, Love or Greed

I thoroughly enjoyed the audible presentation as much as I did another tour de force in the fantasy realm from Carrie Ann Noble. Leprechauns, gold, rainbows, servitude and no memories were what Tomen knew for so long, but coming back alive 2 centuries later leaves him well outside the law and offending magical worlds too.

Wonderful Story

The Gold-Son is a wonderful story written in the style of traditional folklore. I very much enjoyed the tale and the narration of the Brilliance Audio production.
