 Amethyst, the Ogre Witch-Queen, seeks to enslave Jacob, the last of the Foresters, and usurp his powers but Hamill, least experienced and youngest of the Seers, is charged with aiding the forester in his task of defeating her. A terrible darkness covers the land; violent storms and a desolating sickness strike at the heart of the Yield, rendering the folk incapable of defending themselves. Hamill turns to his friend Jon, and together they journey forth against the onslaught of the driving rain and oozing mud in a desperate attempt to gain the support of the Colossi. The three dwarves, Javelin, Archer and Trapper, unite with them once again to fight the encroaching menace, ready to give their all in defending their friends. The Metal-master, Braun, refuses to let them face the dangers without him and girds on his huge broadsword, grinning in anticipation of using it against any who might stand against them. The journey is fraught with dangers, both seen and unseen, as they encounter opposition at every turn, at times not knowing who is friend or foe. Captured by the ogres, they manage to escape, only to plunge straight into a trap set by their adversary. Facing Amethyst at last, she summons power that has lain dormant within her for centuries; a power that would have consequences for them all. Urim, the elusive seer, shadows their every move, offering our brave band of heroes a little hope of eluding her clutches and delivering the strike that would rid the land of her oppression. Will they finally be able to subdue her tyranny? Or will she prove too powerful for their union and become Witch-Queen over the land, subjugating all to her malevolent control?
