So many facts packed in

Lots to cover in a few hours. Author did a nice job and still barely scratched the surface. Fun and interesting listen.

Wow, so much interesting info!

First off, I have to say I don't know much about the history of football or of it's players over the years but if I can remember much of what I heard here I will! This book is chocked full of interesting information and some good questions too. There are a lot of names in here I recognized but didn't know much about. Some very impressive players! I enjoyed this book very much and for any football fan, this is a must have. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

A staggering amount of facts

I am a football fan, but I did not have a clue about many of the facts and history that are presented here. If you can absorb just a fraction of the information, your pro football IQ will be well above the average fan. The author did a good job giving a chronological rundown of all kinds of facts related to the NFL. I thought the narrator did a good job with this type of book. It required a reading that was not too dry but also not too dramatic- I felt he hit just the right balance.

The Great Book of Football Is Just That

Another addition to the Bill O’Neill trivia library, “The Great Book of Football” covers the National Football League from its inception in the 1920’s up to the 2017 season. The problem with that is it is an awful lot to cover in less than four hours so you’re left with the opinion that you’ve missed some important information (which you have) or you’re longing for volume two, three, four, etc.

The book is divided into five key eras of the NFL and each section has its usual Bill O’Neill subject overview, fun facts and trivia quiz. It is formulaic but it works. Again, if you know anything about the NFL you know you’ve missed something.

Scott Miller does the narration and, as I have said before, he is an acquired taste. I didn’t find Scott as annoying on this book as I have in others so, from my perspective, that’s a compliment.

If I had paid for this book I think I wouldn’t have gotten my money’s worth. The information is great but, as my Mother used to say, there should have been more meat on the bones. Hopefully, Volume II is right around the corner.

Alright but a bit vague

This book was interesting, but I had some trouble following the stories as they were less familiar to a non-US resident like myself. I love Football but it’s not a popular sport where I live, so when I was reading I expect to have some things explained so I too could understand. Some words and phrases were a bit vague for me, so I had a bit of a hard time following the stories and anecdotes.
I did enjoy it, and the other book by the same author and narrator about Baseball, which was better in my opinion.
Scott Miller is a great narrator and was a big part of why I liked it so much.
