About this listen

When F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote The Great Gatsby in the early 1920s, the American Dream was already on the skids. Originally based on the idea that the pursuit of happiness involves not only material success but moral and spiritual growth, the dream had by Fitzgerald's time become increasingly focused on money and pleasure—a phenomenon the high-living writer was only too familiar with.

Having a woman read the book when the main character of the book was a man threw me off for several chapters. I found the story difficult to follow.

Not my Cup of Tea

To be honest I’m kind of disappointed with the narrator. I appreciate her taking her time for the audiobook but it felt flat and unenthusiastic unlike a lot of other books I’ve listened to. Just my opinion though. Good read👍

Narrator

The narration had plenty mistakes and there wasn’t enough distinction between male and female characters.

Fine book

Couldn’t hold the attention of a live oak. The narrator was a horrible choice for this novel

Narration is terrible

Yes I liked it because I had to read it for Honors English 11. Awesome book I genuinely believe.

A sort of repentance of my own. I was a one of those kids who could not sit down for a second to read anything short of a comic. Well fast forward 30+ years later and I am still a kid at heart and have children of my own and thanks to Audible.com I was able to read this novel. It is a good description of the era and the time description of the types of people that exist. It will leave you with so many questions you will already know the answers to but will require some deep thinking. I recommend this book for those looking for something Great like Mr. Gatsby himself!

I owed myself not reading this in HS

Although the narration was good, I wish the narration could be more dramatic with different character voices.

The first part if the book was a bit dry and boring but it got much better as the relationships intertwined and the truth was revealed.

Why have a woman narration when it is a male character narrating the story written by a man?

Why would Audible have a female narrate a book written in the voice of a male character? It took me a while to realize that the lady narrator was speaking Nick's thoughts. In this case, a male narrator would have been better for the voice of Nick; similarly, a male narrator would not be appropriate for a book written in a female voice. I wish I had gotten the version narrated by Jake Gyllenhaal. Actually, I wish I had skipped this book -- it may be the most over-rated book I've ever read.
