Even better than the first.

Loved it was fantastically written. You could have picked up this book without ever reading the first one and not be lost. Also didn't rehash a lot of stuff from the first book. was a great performance by the narrator too. keep up the good work can't wait for the next one.

Bought the series

Well other than Nate forgetting about IPSec at some key points along with some of the other characters. It a good story and a teaching one too.
Freeman does a good narration catching the feeling and intent of the characters and story.l did notice from time to time that after a character “spoke” a line sometimes the follow up character clarification (such as the line, he said). Was delivered late so it broke the rhythm of the story.
Still I did buy the entire audible collection and am not sorry at all in-fact very pleased. As I hope others will be too.

Two plots for the price of one.

Plot one are characters and story continued from book one "The Last Layover". Evan and Jason, pilot and first officer, continue their journey home facing the unexpected.
Plot two is Nate searching for his brother Luke. Nate wants to continue his journey to Virginia to reunite with his parents, but doesn't want to go on without his brother. His brother was a med student who volunteered with the Texas militia when the SHTF. With the government and law & order non-existent the southern border is wide open (it is anyway isn't it?). The cartels are moving north and their brand of governing is quite effective. Nate becomes involved with the militia and the fight against the cartels. Nate and Luke are eventually reunited and although initially set on different paths they did agree on the important things. The homestead/community gets larger as individual homes and farms are brought together. Good story with wonderful characters. As pointed out by the author; some of the worst conspiracy theories made into reality. There are at least two more books to this series. I look forward to listening to them.

If you can't be a whiny coot....

I grew up on farms and working land and the story was decent but the narration killed it. I've not heard of a bigger bunch of poor cry babies. Holy smokes. I wanted to help them all wipe their Moses I mean noses. Horrible performance. amazing how these people can manage shooting a animal to feed themselves when they can't figure out how to not sound like a bunch a babies talking about something as simple as coffee or beer.

Good series. Reader is ok.

I was a bit reluctant to get this series because the narration reviews. I agree that its not the best narration I have listened too, but its not that bad. By the third book I didn't even mind it a bit.

Very likeable Chararacters

I like this series even though it is preachy in places and the story is based on us "liberals" ruining the world. I like how the author focuses on the people that are working together cooperatively instead of the evil doers. I am going to get the third book to see how this saga progresses. I do like the information provided about self-reliance.
