Publisher's summary

It's party time for a killer....

Suburban sleuth Christine Bennett is moved and intrigued by two poignant mementos treasured by her late Aunt May. The first is a sad little note mourning the death of a young man lost in a Connecticut wood; the other, an obituary honoring a wealthy local manufacturer who committed suicide just after his splendid 50th birthday celebration.

Why did her aunt never mention these virtually simultaneous tragedies? Chris’ investigative instincts are irresistibly whetted - especially by the bizarre discovery that the victims, though strangers, were found wearing each other’s sneakers. And as she slices through the layers of the past, she uncovers the horrible truth that murder was just the icing on the cake....

Narrator

I had to stop after a few chapters and FF to the end. The narrator sounds like an automated voice, like the phone or Siri, I simply couldn’t listen anymore!!

Old Clues and Eddie's Birthday

This one is complicated and REALLY good. Christine is dealing with some flooding in their basement and decides to go through her aunt's old boxes to clean things up when she runs into some notes from her neighbors to her aunt. Deciding to meet the neighbors, she gets more than she bargained for, learning that her aunt attended two funerals around the same time twelve years ago for members of two families that seemingly had no connection. The more she digs, the deeper she gets into the muck. One of the dead is a friend of her mentally handicapped cousin, Gene. The young man lived at the same care facility, and was also mentally handicapped. But he was visiting his mother in another state when he died. The other was a fifty-year-old man who had committed suicide right after a big birthday celebration. As Chris talks to the two families, one thing sticks out: both men were wearing someone else's shoes when they were found. Meanwhile at home, Eddie is turning four years old and they are preparing for his birthday party. The twists and turns in this story kept me interested and engaged the entire time, and I certainly did not see where it was going. Excellent series, with a lot of people that I have come to care about.

The Happy Birthday Murder

I enjoyed this book. I always look for weird themed usually holiday themed murder books (like St. Patrick's Day murder, Christmas murder, Easter murder).
