Publisher's summary

‘Brilliantly funny, emotional and uplifting’ Miranda Dickinson

In the imposing Glen Carrick House overlooking Scotland’s famous Loch Ness, lives eighty-eight-year-old Mimi McKinlay, cared for by her three adult sons.

Hamish has inherited his mother’s musical talents, Fin is the responsible brother, and Angus has the complicated and brooding personality to match his dashing good looks.

But what all the brothers share is a concern that their beloved mother is living in her memories of her days on stage, while letting her present days pass her by.

Jess Oliver is at a turning point. Amicably divorced after years of being married, this trip to the Highlands is a first taste of independence. It isn’t long before the beauty and hospitality of Scotland captures her heart.

When Mimi and Jess’s paths cross, a friendship is formed that will change both women’s lives. And as together they find ways to look forward instead of to the past, long forgotten dreams are within reach, and every new day is fresh with possibilities.

Take a trip to the Highlands with Judy Leigh for an unforgettable story of glorious pasts and fabulous futures, of love, friendship, family and fun. The perfect feel-good novel for all fans of Dawn French, Dee Macdonald and Cathy Hopkins.

made me think of my mom

I enjoyed the story and the way Meme and Isabella just live life. You need to enjoy life and not worry about what others say. Memes memories are what kept her going. My mom was more like Isabella live life your days are numbered. And that she did.

Love IT !

I Love this book so very much. I felt like I was actually amongst them. It almost seemed like I was a part of the family. Mimi seemed like a lovely lady and I adored her. This book will stay in my heart for a while.

My favorite author!

I've read several of Judy Leigh's books; none alike, all excellent. The best part is they have senior characters! Phyllida Nash's narration is the icing on the cake. :0)

Surprisingly flat

I’ve read a few of Judy Leigh’s books and this is the only one so far that was just flat. It doesn’t have the spark of her others. The characters and scenes just flatline. I persisted with it, thinking it has to find its footing at any moment and turn it around, but then it was over. Perhaps the narrator was part of the problem, as she seemed to cast a blanket of melancholy over the story. It’s not a terrible story, mind you - just not a particularly exciting or interesting one.

Very disappointed

The narration was horrible and could not even follow the story. A definite waste of an audible credit.
I wish I could get that back

It’s very slow

It does not keep me listening, the narrator is very slow, when I sped it up I could not understand some of the words. I want to keep listening to see if it develops but I can’t. To finish this book I would need to read it myself.
