About this listen

Thomas Senlin and his crew of outcasts have been separated, and now, they must face the dangers of the labyrinthine tower on their own in this third audiobook in the word-of-mouth phenomenon fantasy series.

Fearing an uprising, the sphinx sends Senlin to investigate a plot that has taken hold in the ringdom of Pelphia. Alone in the city, Senlin infiltrates a bloody arena where hods battle for the public's entertainment. But his investigation is quickly derailed by a gruesome crime and an unexpected reunion.

Posing as a noble lady and her handmaid, Voleta and Iren attempt to reach Marya, who is isolated by her fame. While navigating the court, Voleta attracts the unwanted attention of a powerful prince whose pursuit of her threatens their plan.

Edith, now captain of the sphinx's fierce flagship, joins forces with a fellow wakeman to investigate the disappearance of a beloved friend. She must decide whom to trust as her desperate search brings her nearer to the Black Trail, where the hods climb in darkness and whisper of the Hod king.

As Senlin and his crew become further dragged in to the conspiracies of the tower, everything falls to one question: Who is the Hod king?

Critic reviews

"It's rare to find a modern book that feels like a timeless classic. I'm wildly in love with this book."—Pierce Brown, author of Red Rising on Senlin Ascends
"The Hod King is a compelling and original novel; the "Books of Babel" are something you hope to see perhaps once a decade - future classics, which may be remembered long after the series concludes."—Los Angeles Times
"Josiah Bancroft is a magician. His books are that rare alchemy: gracefully written, deliriously imaginative, action-packed, warm, witty, and thought-provoking. I can't wait for more."—Madeline Miller, New York Times bestselling author of Circe

Best Book of the Series

So far this has been the best book of the series. Things are really cerebral and tactical which is awesome.

great listen

I very much enjoyed this story. my only fault would be that having read the first books and listened to this ine, I found the narrators voices distracting and maybe not appropriate to the cultures touched on

Wonderful Sequel

The new book takes a lot of risks in structure, but they pay off in droves

A story that pulls on many different heatstrings

I have listened to approximately 2000 hours worth of audiobooks this series has evoked the most emotions from me. Dread, happiness, tears, anger, uncertainty, awe. Such a fantastic series and the books just keep getting better.
I purchased this 3 days ago and cannot wait another month to finish the series, I bought 3 more credits immediately after I finished it.

Exactly what I’ve been looking for.

After my 3rd time through Neil Gaiman’s entire catalog, I was desperate for something that would transport me to another world like American Gods or Neverwhere. The Senlin Ascends books fit the bill and then some. I adore this world and these Characters-not because the author told me I should (if I never read another book about a plucky, independent girl making her way in the world it will be too soon). I liked them because I got to know them over the series. The tower itself is its own character-terrifying as it is, I kinda want to visit. I don’t know how I’ll wait for the next installment-I hope it comes soon!
