Few audiobooks provide as much of an escape as those in the fantasy genre. Each of the best introduces us to an entirely new world (or a new version of this one), a diverse cast of complexly constructed characters, and a story so mesmerizing we’re reluctant to return to real life. But because the genre is so full of talent, it can be difficult to know what to listen to next. Look no further than this list of the best fantasy audiobooks to get you started.

At first I found the narrator's style to be a bit intense, and I almost put it down because it felt like Ze Frank was reading to me.

I quickly got used to it and came to appreciate the incredible amount of effort put into this production all around. Travis' style may be dramatic, but it really helps make this an easy listen.

This is book is perfect for someone like me that needs something that is both interesting and easily digestible in an audio format.

Stick with it!

I didn’t think I would like this book as much as I did. Really glad I gave it a try. I went and bought all the author’s other books right away. If you like magic martial arts and fantasy give it a shot you won’t regret it.

I had a lot of fun with this one

This was my first audio book, and I’ve read the book half a dozen times. Wasn’t sure I was going to like having someone else read a book to me, but before I was half way through, I’d already went and bought the rest of the series audio books. Travis makes the book come alive with the varied voices and tones he uses.

Awesome

I have listened to this series repeatedly, and I mean repeatedly. I’m probably on my 10th listen; I’ve lost count.

Will Wight develops a complex world by peeling off layers of complexity like layers of an onion. You get a good introduction to the mechanics of the magic system in the first book before it expands in the second.

Also I cannot shout Will Wight to the rooftops enough for writing strong, engaging, diverse female characters.

I really enjoyed this book. I had seen it in my recommendation tab for a while, but I had other series' that I had been working on. I wish I would have started it a long time ago. Give it a chance and I think you'll be glad you did!

Great book! I've already bought the 2nd and 3rd!

The story is unique, the main character is clever, and the relationship building seems solid. I'm pretty excited for the next book and I'm really happy just to author doesn't end on a cliffhanger but still leaves you wanting more.
The narration was wonderful from start to finish.
I recommend this book wholeheartedly.

An amazing fantasy story

All the people raving about how great this series is are correct. It is engaging for adults as well as teens. The plot is filled with action and adventure, without resorting to smut or swearing. I can't recommend it enough!

Fantastic Clean Series!

well worth the money i paid for it. Hell, I'd buy it again when it wasn't on sale. Already planning to buy the rest of the series, though a bad book or two later on could turn be off I suppose...

Regardless, LOVE that it's a clever protagonist. Far too often xianxai/wuxia are power trips who bowl their way through the story with their nose in the air all the time, but this one is clever, quick, creative and brave. It was fun listening to him.

As much as the setting has always fascinated me, I'm usually turned off by the characters themselves. Even western fanfiction harem sues are more personable. but not here. I mean, the whole underdog thing is a little overplayed, but hey...

an impressive story.
