About this listen

A psychiatrist, Dr. Alistair Marchand lived the life of a recluse in his quaint farmhouse until the mercenaries arrived to kill him. The cultists that hired the killers labeled him an abomination and an affront to God. While the mercenaries had expected a quiet academic, they had no idea who and what he truly was, child of Nephilim and grandson of an angel.

As Alistair and his powerful friend, Finn, race to locate his siblings, the cultists begin their endgame. Replacing politicians in the European Union and controlling a new pontiff, they plan nothing less than the creation of a new Holy Roman Empire under their control.

Unless Alistair and his allies can put an end to the cultists, the course of Western civilization will be forever altered.

A little different than what I normally listen to but good story. Started a little slower than what I’m used too but once the story got going I really began enjoying the different personalities.

Good story

I like this story and am on the 4th book. The performance is good and the tale is interesting. However, there’s a bit of foul language that detracts from the story. It’s just not necessary and narrows the audience that might appreciate the authors work. Nobody is offended by clean language. But there are many who are turned off by foulness… especially when it takes away from an otherwise good book.

Interesting story; Unnecessary foulness.

JB

Let me say this, I like two things in a story good action and no holds barred when punches are being thrown. This book felt like the original Robocop on speed when it came to the sheer uncensored violence, and brother there was a ton of it to go around. Its a damn good thing there is one hell of a god story to go along with it!!!! As urban fantasy goes this is looking to be a great start to a promising series.

Oliver flips back and forth between action voice and cool down mode, and that really sets the pace. When he goes into beast mode you know the crap just hit the fan and life and death suddenly are indistinct from one another. I really dug his groove and appreciated it.

Great start to a ripping UF series, I can't wait to see/hear what happens next.

Warning:
It does have severe violence. So if violence isn't your thing, do not read!

Once I started this book I could not put it down. So it was a good thing I actually started the story on a night I didn't have work the next day because I'd be too tired for that. What kept me reading was the connections and action with each sibling's meeting. It was great to see that it wasn't sunshine and roses whenever they found each other. All I have to say about the ending is, "seriously" way to leave you wanting to know what's next. What's next for Alistair, Ghost and the second sister? Those three make an interesting working team.

AC Oliver does a good job narrating this book. I did have to do some mental switching when he started using a different, more regular type of tone when reading Alistair. I'm not sure if it is on purpose or it just happened, but I did notice that depending on the situation Alistair was in, depended on the style of voice that was used. For example, if it was time to kick some butt it was the I mean business, deep kind of style and when it was just normal like when he was talking to his siblings or William and such it was just a regular style of voice. Also, I think in the beginning the Alistair style kick butt voice was much better than later in the book. The style wasn't quite the same, close, but slightly off in the deep, scary, I mean business.

Look forward to the next book in the series.

Although this 1st book is a good start, it's short and somewhat confusing due to the narrator's lack of distinction between characters. Still, the story is rich with potential and I'm looking forward to the next segment. Definitely worth the time and credit, although I got my copy from Audiobooks Unleashed!

Interesting Start to the Series

AC Oliver did narrate well, but mispronounced several words.

This is the story of Alastair, the son of an angel by a woman who was kidnapped and raped. He and his siblings are Nephilim. After realizing that there is an active threat to him and all his siblings, Alastair goes on a journey of discovery to find and warn his family. My favorite characters outside of Alastair were Yekong and Robert. It's good to see that these beings also had free will to choose their path. There's lots of action, far flung places all over the world for adventure and learning what gifts each got from their angelic father. Alastair's dreams insure more action in the next book that it's guaranteed I will listen to. Well done!

I found myself needing to replay the first few chapters of this book a few times aa I found it difficult to follow the storyline. I felt the book jumped around making it hard to listen. I stuck with this audiobook because of the narrator., otherwise I would have not have finished.
