Enjoyable set of stories

The Recollections of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Hall chronicles many new adventures. The stories include many that occur after Holmes has retired and he is recalled to action by an interesting case. An older Dr. Watson steps in and stands by Holmes’ side as his friend and colleague. The narration by Michael Langan is outstanding. A nice collection

I was thoroughly delighted by "The Recollections of Sherlock Holmes," a captivating audiobook penned by the talented Arthur Hall and masterfully narrated by Michael Langan. This collection of new adventures from the world of Sherlock Holmes offers a fresh perspective on the legendary detective's post-retirement escapades, all recounted through the astute eyes of Dr. John Watson, who, though older, remains an unwavering companion to Holmes.

Michael Langan's narration truly stands out as a highlight of this audiobook. His ability to craft distinct and immersive voices for each character breathes life into the diverse array of individuals encountered throughout the stories. Langan's skillful storytelling adds depth to the narrative and enhances the overall listening experience.

While some may take issue with the straightforward and unimaginative titles of the stories, such as "The Adventure of the Disappointed Lover," it's important to remember that it's the substance of the tales that truly matters. Arthur Hall's storytelling prowess shines through, offering a range of narratives that vary from decent to outstanding. The book may not boast titles as memorable as Doyle's classics, but it's the quality of the storytelling that ultimately defines its merit.

In particular, "The Adventure of the Resurrected Brother" was a personal favorite, showcasing Hall's ability to craft intricate and compelling mysteries worthy of the Sherlock Holmes canon. The consistently high caliber of storytelling across all the stories within this collection is a testament to Hall's talent as an author.

One noteworthy advantage of a collection by a single author, such as "The Recollections of Sherlock Holmes," is the cohesive narrative thread that runs through the stories. Unlike anthologies that may feature contributions from various writers with differing styles and tones, a single author can maintain consistency in the portrayal of beloved characters and the development of overarching themes. In this audiobook, Arthur Hall's deep understanding of the Sherlock Holmes universe allows for a seamless and immersive experience for listeners.

In conclusion, "The Recollections of Sherlock Holmes" by Arthur Hall, expertly narrated by Michael Langan, is a must-listen for fans of the legendary detective. Despite the straightforward titles, the book delivers a series of engaging and well-crafted stories that pay homage to the spirit of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's creation. The cohesion achieved by a single author contributes to the overall enjoyment of this audiobook, making it a standout addition to the Sherlock Holmes canon.

Holmes and Watson eat, and drink

These stories were, on the whole, well written. The author did a solid job of capturing the feel of the Canon. But I dinged the author one star for a thing that felt non-canonical, to wit, the frequent references to eating of meals, and drinking of alcohol.

The narrator did a first class job creating distinctive voices for all the characters. He never mispronounced any words to the best of my knowledge. I would definitely listen to anything else he narrated.

So definitely give this a listen!
