Excellent narration

Long book, but the performance of the narrator is well worth it. Makes it feel shorter than it is.

Did you think the movie covered it?

I loved the movie starring Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin. I never thought Baldwin made the best Jack Ryan but the movie was thrilling and a great tale. Why am i talking about the movie? Because it left me with so many unanswered questions. in the first hour of the book alone i was fed a rich backstory into what created and motivated Captain Ramius. Communism? In the movie, it's hardly mentioned and the true nature of the oppressive regime of Soviet Russia was glossed over. In this story, you will have a fuller understanding of how a group of men could have true justification for defecting with one of the worlds most powerful weapons.
Scott Bricks performance was as near to perfect as possible and he pulls off the right amount of accent for the characters of differing nations.
Tom Clancy had a superb knack for providing details into the world of espionage, military intelligence and political subterfuge. This exciting story, though dated, will live on as a great work of fiction....or is it?

Still a great book

Years ago my wife bought me the paperback version of HFRO. I thought she did not like me because the book was so thick if I got interested in it I would not be able to talk to her for a long time. Well it was but I finished it in record time. Then they made the movie which I still watch whenever I come across it. Now I just finished listening to it and it was a whole new experience. Scott Brick brings a a book to life. When it is a great book, he pulls you into the story and you live it. I know the story, I know the characters, I know what is going to happen but like I said Scott Brick’s narration delivers a whole new experience. Great book, great story, great performance, great time.

Marco Ramius

Fantastic book, so much better than the movie. Now I wish the movie stuck with this story line instead of changing it up. In normal Clancy fashion, lots of detail, verging plot lines, grand finale. Highly recommenced

The book that made Tom Clancy

This was really good. I hadn't read any Tom Clancy and I'm glad I started at the beginning of the Jack Ryan series. Also, the narrator did a great job of differentiating voices and managing the pace of the book.

An all around winner in literature

I loved the book when it was published, the movie when it came out and the versions of Audible books that have been released. My generation actually went through the troubles with Russia and Communism. As they have shown in England, they can be nasty. The 50’s, 60’s and 70’s were hard for the Russian people. We, the American people were shown how you couldn’t trust Russia and their leaders. Too bad some of our leaders didn’t retain any history, or maybe have a learning disability they never addressed. Great Book. Great Recording. To be enjoyed over and over.

Excellent

Scott Brick delivers once again. Excellent narration, excellent pacing. Unlike the version previously available, Scott's recording is clear, paced well, and delivers well as his acting always is. Worth the listen to, this version will have you coming back.
