About this listen

Don't Miss the Original Series Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan Starring John Krasinski!

The #1 New York Times bestseller that launched the phenomenal career of Tom Clancy - a gripping military thriller that introduced the world to his unforgettable hero, Jack Ryan - nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American Read.

Somewhere under the freezing Atlantic, a Soviet sub commander has just made a fateful decision. The Red October is heading west. The Americans want her. The Russians want her back. The chase for the highly advanced nuclear submarine is on - and there’s only one man who can find her...

Brilliant CIA analyst Jack Ryan has little interest in fieldwork, but when covert photographs of Red October land on his desk, Ryan soon finds himself in the middle of a high-stakes game of hide-and-seek played by two world powers - a game that could end in all-out war.

Such an amazing book deserves an amazing narrator, and Scott Brick is such a narrator.

A production note: I don't know what happens at 51:51, but it sounds like Brick does an extra take that isn't removed. Small detail, but it was noticeable. Great story and narration though!

Scott Brick!

Very enjoyable book. Full of intrigue and tension. I was worried having seen the movie many times would take away from my enjoyment but it had no effect.

Full of tension!

Saw the orginal movie when I was 11, almost 30 years ago & loved it then. Hearing the entire story was indescribable!!

Loved it.

Having been a fan of the film by the same name, I was quite curious about the the book. The story was obviously fleshed out more and the characters had more depth than is possible in a motion picture making the story that much more thrilling and enjoyable. The narrator was top notch, expressive, and capable of voices without over acting. He did his job well and I would be willing to listen to anything else he read.

A very enjoyable listen of a great story

In Clancy’s usual style of going off on tangents, he goes on and on with lots of unnecessary and technical details about submarines. You gotta like this style if you’re gonna like Clancy—perhaps some would say this adds color to the story. However a significant (if not most) of these details really don’t add to moving the plot forward.

Unnecessary detail

I've read them all and listened to them all. I started re-listening in preparation for the new Jack Ryan TV series. Hunt For Red October is still hands down the best of the series and Scott Brick is the perfect voice for Jack Ryan. He is the best of the narrators chosen for the series.
I highly recommend this title if you have never tried Tom Clancy and enjoy Spy Games/Military Action. #Jack Ryan #Deep Dive #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

The best of the series with the perfect narrator!

started here with Jack Ryan and it is a great place to start! I read a review that said this book is bit dated, but I just read it like it was a historical story from the time period and thought it was fine! The submarine action is great, and Jack Ryan is a character I cant wait to get know better!

great book!
