Whether you are an experienced author or have just started thinking about how to write a nonfiction book, The Influential Author will teach you about:

  • Combining your passions and experience with demand to decide what book to write
  • Organizing your knowledge into sections and chapters for maximum comprehension and flow
  • Refining your book with feedback from editors, proofreaders, beta readers, and market testing
  • Choosing a title, subtitle, description, and cover design that capture your message and create sales
  • Pricing and promoting each format of your book (digital, print, and audio) for maximum revenue
  • Enjoying lifelong passive income, influence, and meaning from your book’s success

Publishing a book could be one of the most meaningful things you ever do. Listen to The Influential Author to get started on your path to writing nonfiction books that matter.

Critic reviews

"(Diehl) delivers a practical and encouraging guide to self-publishing nonfiction.... Though lengthy, Diehl's book can be quickly read and is crammed with practical ideas that readers will want to highlight and refer back to when they endeavor to write their own book." (Publishers Weekly)

"I appreciate Diehl's critical gaze and think that he has contributed a great many ideas to the conversation of publishing within this book. Diehl has a strong sense of the types of nonfiction books he wants to create and the readers who want to buy them." (Publishing Research Quarterly, Volume 36, Issue 4)

"Every year, there is at least one book that is a 'must read' for the aspiring writer seeking to have their manuscript become abook, and their book become successful. This year that 'how to' manual is Gregory V. Diehl's The Influential Author: How and Why to Write, Publish, and Sell Nonfiction Books that Matter.... A complete and comprehensive course that should be a part of every community, college, and university library Writing/Publishing instructional reference and resource collection." Aspiring authors need this.

Ironically as an aspiring author, I don't actually like reading books like this anymore. Especially books about writing and publishing. This is why I opted to get an audiobook and based on the effect it appears I have made the right choice. I've finally brought structure to my crazy notes and turned it into my next book.

This audiobook is well read by the author himself. I always prefer audiobooks read by the author themselves. You can hear the inflection and conviction better. It calms anxieties about writing that you may not even be aware you had.

I just recommended this book to a friend

I just recommended this book to a friend and send him a link. That is the best compliment I can give because I rarely recommend books to anyone.

I have read several books on self-publishing and found this one to be not just the most helpful, but the most enjoyable to read as well. If authorship and publishing are of interest to you, you will enjoy this book.

The Best of the Best

This audio is not for entertainment purposes but is the most thorough and in-depth and detailed overview of How and Why to Write, Publish, and Sell Nonfiction Books that Matter. The title says it all and it is all that Gregory V. Diehl talks about for fourteen hours. It is a book you can listen to for months and months before you finally get down to putting what he speaks about into practice.

Very impressive.

This book is bursting with valuable information. Gregory Diehl is obviously very knowledgeable about the entire process of writing and publishing. I purchased his book because I plan to write a couple of books that hopefully make a difference. He covers the subject in great depth from beginning to end. Extremely well done.

Important info. Well presented and organized.

Diehl covers this subject matter well. The narration is outstanding for this type of book. My only issue is that the narrator slaughtered Spanish word pronunciations when he discussed foreign distribution. He should have learned how to pronounce those words first. It would have added a more professional touch.

#1 for writing & self-publishing nonfiction books

The Influential Author and its author were the greatest influence on me for finally writing and self-publishing my first book. That book is a professional guide in a difficult area of life based on my lifelong profession, and to my surprise there were virtually zero books about it on Amazon. That book has now been published (finally!) and is off to a great start on Amazon and we are bringing this much needed info to the public in a new format.

I don't think there is any greater guide available for the entire process, and I mean from the early stages of thinking and planning all the way through to publication day and everything that comes after. If you really read and take Gregory Diehl's advice to heart here, it will definitely change the way you think about nonfiction books and becoming an author. I cannot recommend it more. I am proud to include the hardcover on my bookshelf.

Practical advice, well written

I actually enjoyed all of the content the book offers. The narration was done well, the content was valuable, and I like the way it was written. Great book for new authors, and perhaps even for experienced authors to gain a new perspective. Very few books provide the kind of insight that Gregory does in this book - the content in this book actually takes the reader from the idea of starting a book all the way to publishing and marketing it. I found it so helpful, I bought a hard copy for reference.

Great Resource!

This is a wonderful resource for beginners like me. It served as the perfect momentum builder for outlining and beginning to write my first book. I am well on my way because of it. Knowing now what the full publishing process is, I know that I do not want to self publish but I wouldn’t have been able to get to that decision without the detailed information is The Influential Author. Thanks for creating such useful resources for the world.
