About this listen

In 2013, Johnny B. Truant and Sean Platt published 1.5 million words and made their full-time livings as indie authors. In Write. Publish. Repeat., they tell you how exactly how they did it: How they created over 15 independent franchises across 50+ published works, how they turned their art into a logical, sustainable business, and how any independent author can do the same to build a sustainable, profitable career with their writing. Write. Publish. Repeat. explains the current self-publishing landscape and covers the truths and myths about what it means to be an indie author now and in the foreseeable future. It explains how to create books your readers will love and will want to return to again and again. Write. Publish. Repeat. details expert methods for building story worlds, characters, and plots, understanding your market (right down to your ideal reader), using the best tools possible to capture your draft, and explains proven best practices for editing. The audiobook also discusses covers, titles, formatting, pricing, and publishing to multiple platforms, plus a bit on getting your books into print (and why that might not be a good idea!). But most importantly, Write. Publish. Repeat. details the psychology-driven marketing plan that Sean and Johnny built to shape their stories into "products" that readers couldn't help but be drawn into - thus almost automatically generating sales - and explores ways that smart, business-minded writers can do the same to future-proof their careers. This audiobook is not a formula with an easy path to follow. It is a guidebook that will help you build a successful indie publishing career, no matter what type of writer you are...so long as you're the type who's willing to do the work.

The #1 Book for new writers looking for Advice

I have to say this book was everything they said it was. I have read dozens of writing books and this one really delivered value. I market companies for a living and the authors "get" what you need to do. They come across as really in-tune with the real world and deliver a no hype, no bs assessment of direction you can go. They deliver in every chapter and are really quite funny.

I was also pleased with the examples they used. In the past 3 years I have listened to about 5 books they mentioned. It was nice to hear their comments. The guys are funny and have a "home style" sense of humour.

I have no criticisms, just one comment. The first 10-15 pages confused me at first but then you get on an exciting roller coaster ride where you don't want to get off. You need to read this book front to back.

Its pleasantly surprising to finish a chapter in a non-fiction book and be salivating and wanting to read on as quickly as possible. They definitely have a gift in communicating.

Lastly, this is not a one "read" book. I plan to go back and make notes and study this piece of work in detail. Bravo guys, you nailed it and it shows!

Excellent motivator

Lots of helpful and honest advice. Enjoy the podcast, but appreciate that you had your butler read this one, was just a little bit posh.

Great advice and great narration. Very motivating

This is an amazing book to give you guidelines to starting your own indie publishing career. This doesnt tell you everything, but it does give you advice for other books, blogs, and podcasts to learn more. It is an amazing resource. I feel a little upset that I got the audio book though. This being a resource that I will go back to, a hard copy is definitely worth it.

Straight Forward Advice

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would recommend this book to a friend that is interested in the subject matter of self-publishing.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed the no-nonsense approach that these authors gives their readers. It will be hard work and it will be worth it. Just keep writing.

Which character – as performed by Simon Whistler – was your favorite?

I think the authors just like the narrators British accent

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Good. Just good.

I enjoyed this book. It was encouraging and entertaining and has made me take a serious look at what life as an Indie author would really look like.

Pet peeves:
They use profanity. Yes, they give you a disclaimer about it at the beginning of the book but the audio sample is from the middle of the book so id isn't realize quite how much was in there. It wouldn't stop me from listening again, but since much of my listening time is when my children are in the car, I found myself frowning often enough. Is just doesn't seem necessary, but it's authentic for the authors, it's just not my taste.

The narrator whistles his "s" sounds often. There were a few parts that made me turn the sound down because it was hurting my ears.

The above are seriously nit-picky details because the book is good enough that picking out lice eggs is really all that's left. If you would like honest advice about how to have a career as an author/publisher, read it.

How to Become a Well-oiled Writing Machine

Would you consider the audio edition of Write. Publish. Repeat. to be better than the print version?

A printed version would be better for reference. However, if the book was printed, I'd never take the time to read it. That's because I sit all day in my job as a writer, so in my spare time, I like to listen to audio books while I clean, walk and drive.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The narrator. Great accent!

Any additional comments?

Because you can self publish your writing so easily now, there are no more excuses to put off writing. This book explains how to do it. Looking forward to the sequel.

Incredible resource.

This is an incredible resource. I discovered these guys through their Better Off Dead podcast when searching for horror themed podcasts... had no idea that they were writers. Went from there to their Self-Publishing podcasts, to their fiction, to Fiction Unboxed (Google it). As a writer I want to be always learning, and I have learned from their work.

Game changer

A review won't do justice to the great paradigm shifting content in this book. It lays out the simple (not easy) strategies the authors have used with plenty of examples from their real life books and experiences. The authors don't BS with secret ninja tricks - there aren't any and they tell you there aren't any. This is a must have for all authors self publishing.
