About this listen

Unique to this title is:

  • A Study of the Themes Present in Dear Brutus

You may of course skip it and go straight to the main title, if you do not want any spoilers and come back later to the beginning.

James Barrie grew up in a family where the mother was the dominant figure. When he was six years old, his elder brother died in an accident, a trauma from which his mother never recovered. As his mother played a dominant role in his life, her pain and suffering affected Barrie deeply and changed his life forever.

Dear Brutus explores what might happen if ordinary men and women, mired in unhappiness, were given the magical opportunity to remake their lives, or, as the butler Matey says, the chance to "take the right turning". The play addresses the human proclivity to blame others or fate for their failures and unhappiness, and provides the audience with penetrating insights into human nature.

Interim review

Circumstances right now prevent me from writing an extensive review. I will update my review as soon as I am able. I love the added content by the producers.

Very entertaining

I enjoyed this book for the most part. There are so many characters that I had a hard time keeping track. The whole concept of the book and going into the forest to get a second chance was intriguing. I was surprised by what happened when they came out of the forest. I thought the narrator did a good job performing the book. His narration was a bit stiff, but he was easy to understand.

Cool concept

This book portrays a sad scenario but in dealing with hard and deep topics, the emotional state of the characters is examined in the hypothetical scenarios of what if. Interesting writing is magnified by a terrific performance by Doug Haynie.
