Publisher's summary

The populism that Trump espouses is rooted in the thought and culture of Andrew Jackson. Jacksonians are skeptical about the value of liberal order building, so the challenge for international politics in the days ahead is to find a way to stop the liberal order’s erosion.

"The Jacksonian Revolt" is from the March/April 2017 issue of Foreign Affairs.

Excellent explanation of current political divide

This is about as succinct and clear an explanation as one can get of our current political divide. We have to stop thinking the solution is for my side to win and start trying to understand the other perspective. A refusal to do this results in the type of stalemate that’s largely gone on in recent years and will continue unless we change. Interestingly and perhaps significantly, I couldn’t even tell which side the author was on from listening to this piece.
