Great collection of stories.

Jo Nesbo never disappoints! I love the Harry Hole books and would love more of him, but these short stories were thought provoking and held my interest! Thank you, Jo Nesbo!

Nesbo is a master of dark storytelling

These stories were really fun. Even some that felt long packed a whollop by the end. I enjoyed the varying narrative styles of the audiobook, which felt like a great choice.

Overall, I’d recommend this to anyone who’s read Nesbo before. Well worth it!

Bizarre and sickening

was expecting better stories, not multiple ways of killing, each story trying to be worse.

Superb

A fan of the Harry Hole series, I already knew that Jo Nesbø was talented. This collection of short works, however, casts the depth and breadth of said talent in bas relief. Unbound by the confines of Hole’s world, Nesbø incorporates speculative fiction to explore the nature of the soul, of society, and if human resilience. If you’re expecting Harry Hole vignettes, don’t bother with this collection. But if you want to be taken out of yourself and dazzled, this collection is for you.

Jealousy and Power

I've been a fan of Jo Nesbo for a long time, especially his Harry Hole series. Some of the short stories were typical of Nesbo's writing style, so I liked them. I'm not a fan of dystopian writing, so I didn't care for those stories.

Pretend you don't know Hole and it's pretty good

I compare everything non-Hole Nesbo writes to his Harry Hole series, which I enjoy immensely. That's not fair to Nesbo. To get past that with this book, I played a little mind game and pretended this was written by a new author I have never heard of before. The result was that I enjoyed the stories more than other short story collections. The dialogue is believable and engaging. The stories have a wide variety of settings. I learned things in each one. Overall they are entertaining. Nesbo uses his trademark abrupt twists and turns which I always appreciate. I have a couple of criticisms. Nesbo gets a little too heady and psychological in a few places, which lost me. The other is indicative of a good short story. I was left wanting more.
I felt all the narrators were well chosen. They performed a variety of characters with distinct voices. Their cadence rose and fell with the tension.

Cohesive collection & very imaginative

I found this to be an incredible collection of stories that belong together. It was very enjoyable to listen to, and hard to arrive at the conclusion!

Nesbo at his finest

Like many others, I have come to love the Harry Hole series, especially the predictable unpredictability. Having said that, the Harry Hole novel format creates a framing that to some degree constrains an author as creative as Nesbo. This new collection vividly makes that point, as many stories contain elements that would be impossible to apply within a Harry Hole construct. Prepare to be dazzled, in new ways! For instance, first person narration is applied to very different characters, with very different psychologies and styles…
