Absolutely heartbreaking to hear the children dying and the madman leading them all to their deaths. Such a great tragedy with so many lives carelessly lost!

If you could sum up The Jonestown Death Tape (FBI No. Q 042) (November 18, 1978) in three words, what would they be?

Sad. Frightening. Betrayal.

What other book might you compare The Jonestown Death Tape (FBI No. Q 042) (November 18, 1978) to and why?

A Thousand Lives

What does the narrator bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Hearing Jim Jones, his actual voice, for the first time, sent chills up my back-- a bit like I imagine hearing Hitler's voice might feel...

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me deeply sad. The background 'noises' especially the babies crying, was heart breaking. It accomplished the impossible,as it made me feel that I was actually there, experiencing the heat of the jungle, the oppression, the hunger...

Any additional comments?

I didn't know what to expect, I must say that the quality was almost unbelievably good! From a 32 year old tape--- incredible!

Made me feel like I was there...

Just unbelievable, just sad. Just listening to the children, no words. He brainwashed them all .

Listened to the road Jonestown before listening to the tape and it’s a heart wrenching demonstration of how psychosis and inner torment can manifest in actual demonstrable evil. I don’t know if I believe in God, but now I believe in the Devil

Obviously this was a horrible tragedy. Hearing the kids screaming in the background and then the increasing quiet while Jones calmly manipulated these poor people to urgently end their lives was difficult. I listened to this while filing at work. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Not Easy to Digest, But Worth a Listen
