About this listen

In the early ’90s, the KLF was the biggest-selling singles band in the world—until they destroyed their records, erased themselves from music history, and literally set fire to one million pounds.

In this fascinating and in-depth biography, popular British writer and cultural historian John Higgs digs into the story behind the end of one of the most popular bands of the late twentieth century. The band members themselves, when asked in interviews, were never able to satisfactorily explain their behavior, but looked haunted every time it came up. With his characteristically creative mind, Higgs leads listeners on a journey to understand “a story that no one knows they are in—least of all the main characters.”

Ranging from music history to chaos theory to Carl Jung and Doctor Who, this brilliant pop biography has been named one of the top ten music books of the year by The Guardian, The Independent, and MOJO magazine. Perfect for music buffs and mystery fans alike, The KLF is an engrossing and entertaining listen.

It’s a fascinating story about ways of processing the universe outside your own model aka reality tunnel and integrating various models into a new way of thinking. It’s all a fun romp. A perfect balance of reason and magic. Just listen to it.

John Higgs is an incredible writer and truly gets to the heart of this story. The KLF were an important enigma and the story of their conception, actions, and the fallout from them, is important to understanding our current world. I cannot recommend this enough, if you're on the fence, take the plunge and experience a new way of thinking.

An absolutely incredible account of the most interesting event leading up to the new millennium

It’s funny and helpful, it was really wonderful and all of the stuff inside of it made me feel like I’m listening to something wonderful, the wonder meant and osteoporosis of the words broke my heart, do you unique words are incredibly boisterous and fulfillment is tantamount to hot buttered toast faces pressed firmly between the thighs of an unnamed God

Loved it
