About this listen

For half a century, people have debated the Kennedy assassination. Some claim that the Warren Commission got it right - that Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald, a lone-nut assassin. Others contend that Kennedy was killed as part of a conspiracy.

It is not the purpose of this book to engage in that debate. The purpose of this book is simply to focus on what happened at Bethesda Naval Hospital on the evening of November 22, 1963. What happened that night is so unusual that it cries out for truthful explanation even after all these years.

In this book you will learn that:

1. Kennedy's body was actually delivered to the Bethesda morgue twice, at separate times and in separate caskets.

2. Some photographs and X-rays from the autopsy went missing from the record, and other photographs in the record were forged or otherwise fraudulent.

3. The president's body was altered by tampering with the wounds before the autopsy took place.

And much more.

Intriguing premise;

Would you consider the audio edition of The Kennedy Autopsy to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

The plausibility of there having been a conspiracy.

What about Kevin Pierce’s performance did you like?

I like the way he was able to take relatively dry stuff and make it easy to take.

If you could give The Kennedy Autopsy a new subtitle, what would it be?

More Than Meets the Eye

Any additional comments?

In 1963, I was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, working as an all-source intelligence analyst with the Defense Intelligence Agency at the Production Center on the second floor of "B" Building at Arlington Hall Station, Virginia. Two of my colleagues, Tom Mumford and Brad Veek, also U.S. Navy Lieutenants, had become close buddies. Tom worked on Southeast Asia matters; Brad and I worked on Soviet matters.

Many days we had lunch together at the Officers’ Club on the station. A frequent topic of chatter among us was what we considered to be the sheer incompetence of our Commander-in-Chief, President John F. Kennedy. I won’t go into specific details because they are irrelevant now. Suffice it to say, we all agreed that Kennedy was wreaking havoc in our respective areas of responsibility. Our consensus was that somebody should get to Kennedy and get him to stop what he was doing. Jokingly, one of us (I don’t remember who) said somebody should take him out. But, emphatically, and most certainly, we did not seriously mean that somebody should get him to stop by actually shooting him. Things like that might happen in some other country, but not here, in the United States; no way!

Sometime between 1:30 and 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 1963, my two buddies and I were taking an extended lunch break over a few beers at the O’Club (it was Friday, after all) when people started running around talking excitedly. As soon as we found out that the hubbub was caused by the news that President Kennedy had been shot in Dallas, Texas, we were absolutely stunned. Almost as one, the three of us said, “Oh, Shit!” We thought the Soviets had successfully conspired to do it. Then we thought about what we had been saying in a place where anybody could have overheard us. The next thing we thought would happen would be our being dragged out of the O’Club in handcuffs and forcibly interrogated for “our part” in the conspiracy. Very deflated, we left our unfinished beers on the table and went home, looking over our shoulders to see if we were being tailed. As it turned out, we didn’t have to worry, but we still did. We also learned a lesson about cheap chatter and the possible fall-out from it. We never talked like that again.

Flashing forward to the present, author, Jacob Hornberger, in The Kennedy Autopsy, details the significant inconsistencies in the records and testimonies of witnesses and participants in activities relating to Kennedy’s assassination. What he says seems to make a good case that there was some sort of conspiratorial effort that resulted in the death by shooting of the President. That part of his conclusion that addresses “The National Security State” and its possible involvement grates on me. Call me naive if you want, but I never felt like such a State existed; at least, not during the time I actively served in the Intelligence Community.

The narrator, Kevin Pierce, has taken a well-written work and turned it into a gripping aural tale. His skill in storytelling is evident throughout the presentation. I rate this audiobook a 5-Star on content and a 5-Star on the narrator’s delivery. On both these counts, I highly recommend you get this audiobook.

The Kennedy autopsy

For half a century, people have debated the Kennedy assassination. Some claim that the Warren Commission got it right - that Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald, a lone-nut assassin. Others contend that Kennedy was killed as part of a conspiracy. It is not the purpose of this book to engage in that debate. The purpose of this book is simply to focus on what happened at Bethesda Naval Hospital on the evening of November 22, 1963. What happened that night is so unusual that it cries out for truthful explanation even after all these years. In this book you will learn that: 1.

When I first saw this book, I was drawn in by the subject matter, as I always am with books involving this terrible event. I think that, especially for those who remember that day, any book involving those events is bound to be fascinating, whether one agrees with its conclusions or not. For me, November 22, 1963 and September 11, 2001 have been burned into my memory so deeply that they have become an integral part of my very make-up. So, though I didn’t expect to have the entire truth revealed, and hoped I wouldn’t read fantasy disguised as truth, I set my own ideas aside as much as possible, and read with as open a mind as I could manage.

I was pleasantly surprised, too, because the author presents a well developed and carefully researched scenario, and one that, in fact, raises more questions than it answers. He also makes a very convincing case for his conclusions, and, though my own view is that we may never learn the entire truth of the events surrounding, and the motivations that sparked the assassination of President Kennedy, such endeavors do shed light on what happened, and do present some possible, if barely plausible, answers to some of the many unanswered questions.
The narrator did his usual excellent job, and his performance of this book was as impeccable as has been everything I have ever listened to him narrate.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars and the narrator 5 out of 5 stars.

It's like you're in the thick of it.

What made the experience of listening to The Kennedy Autopsy the most enjoyable?

Kevin Pierce does an excellent job with the material. The authoritative voice gives weight to the facts being presented.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I was taken aback at the amount of inconsistency in the handling of Kennedy's body. I'm mainly a lover of history and not so much conspiracy theories. But this book, written by Hornberger backs up the data with references and court transcripts. Also, I did not know that Oliver Stone's movie "JFK" had such an impact of the public outcry for information that it actually inspired policy. I also did not know that there was a standoff between the secret service and medical examiners on how the body should have an autopsy.

This book puts you in the thick of it. And it is a fascinating thing to listen to.

A thorough look at the medical evidence!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is a great listen. Clearly lays out all the factual evidence available as well as different potential scenarios and explanations.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Kennedy Autopsy?

The most memorable moment was when the author put together a potential scenario that would fit with the evidence available. Nothing near to what we've been taught about JFK's death.

What does Kevin Pierce bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Kevin Pierce nails this narration with just the right combination of authority, amazement, and wonder at what the evidence points to. I will definitely look for additional books narrated by Kevin Pierce.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Occam's razor states that the simplest answer is most likely the correct one. In reading this book I was amazed at the simple answer that the evidence indicates. When the author spelled it out, it just made sense.

Kennedy autopsy

Well narrated and very easy to follow what was really a complicated cover up. This book for me erased any doubt there was a cover up.

Eye Opener

This is a great book with still a lot of unanswered questions after more than 50 years. There are just so many interesting perspectives. This book focuses mainly on the autopsy, but there are several key points about the actual assassination. I believe there were plenty of cover ups, but you decide by checking this book out. Kevin Pierce did an admirable job of narrating this audiobook.

ABSOLUTELY FASCINATING AND FRIGHTENING

Two caskets, two autopsies, two brains? This listen gives one so much to think about. Over 50 years and we still do not have all of the answers~were this horrific part of our history to happen with today's technology, I believe the coverup would be much harder to perpetrate. I got really tired of the many "I do not recall" or " I do not remember"~so unbelievable since anyone alive during that awful day in Dallas remembers events minute by minute. Very well written and expertly narrated. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the Kennedy assassination, the aftermath, and the untruths told to the American people.
