Publisher's summary

Jean:

The past has a way of catching up with you, even if you are immortal. I’ve spent thousands of years as the valet and companion to the powerful King of All Shifters. It has been my honor and duty to protect, serve, and advise him. I never intended to fall in love with him. My past is filled with death and bloodshed, but I never once regretted keeping Alarick safe. Now an evil I thought long gone has resurfaced, determined to kill Alarick and plunge the world into chaos. Saving Alarick means revealing the truth about myself. I don’t know what’s worse, failing to protect the king I love, or watching him turn away from me in disgust when he discovers what I really am.

King Alarick:

As King of All Shifters, my powers are connected to the cosmos, and I have been around since the dawn of time. There are few things that can kill me. Unfortunately, one of those things has escaped its prison and is set to destroy me. The only weapon that can defeat this creature is the Scythe of Kronos, which has been missing for nearly as long as I have lived. When Jean and I set out on a quest to find the scythe, questions I had long ignored must now be answered. What is Jean’s connection to this evil? Why will he trust me with his life but not his secrets? As my most trusted valet, and my greatest friend, surely nothing that happens along this perilous journey can change what I feel in my heart for him. Or can it?

Delightful!

I loved each of the three books in this series, but this last book was my favorite. Narrator Greg Boudreaux was awesome, as always. Mixing fairytale style with humor and steam, each of the stories were an easy read. I'm sorry that there's no more in the series.

When a valet conquers the heart of his king

Ah! The time has finally come for the love story of our high king and I wasn’t disappointed at all! This was fast-paced, thrilling, intriguing and magical.

Jean has always cared for King Alarick deeply. As his personal valet, it was Jean’s duty to care for his king but deep down, he knew that his care and cherishing is more than just an employee should be. And King Alarick is the sharpest, strongest and most talented shifters of all. That’s why he’s the high king but he could be oh-so-clueless when it comes to the matters of the heart. Everyone knows that he and Jean has something electrified but he doesn’t know it himself. When a war that could possibly destroy the whole shifter empire comes looming, Alarick realized that once and for all, he had to be brave for his heart, his kingdom and his people.

Ah!!! Jean is the sweetest! So are Alarick’a children!!! Sooooo tower, sticky and sweet! This was such a magical book full of shifter lore, mystery and a looming war. Fast paced and filled with adrenaline! I love how Jean and Alarick found their happily ever after! They truly deserve it!

Perfect ending to this awesome series

Sigh, that was perfect. I have loved King Alarick and his blind faithful valet Jean. I knew that Alarick was very powerful, but no where near just how powerful. From the very beginning you could see just how much Jean loved him and I thought that Alarick was just plain clueless. After beginning together for thousands of years, how could he not see. And then I got it, he wasn't ready to. He needed to grow and come into his own before he was ready to take that step with Jean. We finally find out what Jean is & why he ended up with Alarick. What he did to keep his King safe broke my heart. Anyway, an evil from Jean's past, who he thought was dead & gone, has surfaced to finish the job that Jean couldn't do thousands of years ago. To defeat this enemy, they need to find the Scythe of Kronos. So in just like the princes in the prior books, they start their journey to find the Scythe, come to terms with their true feelings for each other and defeat evil. Even though I am most saddened that this series is over in just 3 short books, it could not have ended more perfectly. This is a series that I will be re-reading often.

Loved It!

I have been waiting for Alarick and Jean's book and The King and His Vigilant Valet is everything I could have hoped for. This story is full of intrigue, adventure, mystery, friendship and devotion that turns into everlasting love.
These two are the perfect halves of each other. Discovering what they truly are to one another leads them on the journey to their HEA. I loved seeing our favorite shifters from the previous books. Adding just the right amount of danger this story will captivate you and hold you in suspense until the very end. You will be rewarded with the most amazing epilogue! Greg Boudreaux does an outstanding job of bringing these characters to life. Truly loved this book!

only complaint is that it's too short!

I love every book in this series but King Alric and Lord Eldritch are my favorites. the story is a perfect blend of wry humor, serious action, and romance. I only wish there was more!

Greg Boudreaux does an excellent job narrating. all the characters have distinct voices and he does so well emoting.

Fun but fast ending

Story: 3.75⭐️
4.5⭐️

A fun (if a bit rushed conclusion) to this fluffy, paranormal world. Definitely not a standalone as there is basically zero foundation for Jean and Alarick's friendship to turn into a mating (on Alarick's part at least).

The story picks up from the epilogue of book 2 with Jean and Alarick being attacked by an assassin long-thought dead and quickly jumps from location to location in search of a way to defeat the big bad. In the hurricane of activity (consisting of dealing with a few of the king's exes), Alarick realizes he loves Jean as more than a friend between banter and attacks from underlings the immortal can't seem to take that seriously.

Gooey, feel-good fun that is performed so well.
