About this listen

FNH Audio presents an unabridged reading of The King in Yellow by Robert W. Chambers.

The King in Yellow is a collection of short stories - mysterious, macabre, and endearing by turns. The work has been linked to H. P. Lovecraft, with the titular entity forming a part of the extended Cthulhu mythos.

The first three stories are darkly suspenseful and linked by the mysterious Yellow Sign and the malevolent King in Yellow. These will please Lovecraft fans most of all, and the ghost stories will not disappoint. Also included in this collection are a war story and a strange romance, both of which intrigue and entertain.

Good for the price I paid there is another audiobook of this which costs more. This one is just as good I am sure.

Good for the price I paid.

Narrator was good; tries to do the wispy, almost scared voice thing and pulls it off. First few stories are excellent, later ones are not connected to the King In Yellow. would recommend skipping them.

Not all stories are connected

The first several stories are very good and faint ties can be found between them. But the whole second half of the book feels like a completely different book. Its stories are all kind of boring, not connected to each other or to the King, and just feel out of place.

Beter in the beginning

Not what I was expecting based on reviews I read. It was ok for what it is I guess.

Most annoying is no transition between chapters/stories. Just all the sudden its a whole new location and characters. So I miss the first bit thinking wtf is going on. Did I zone out do i need to backup?

Meh

This book has a strong start then just tapers off.
The book follows several people that tend to go crazy after reading The King in Yellow. I honestly could finish the book, as it just kinda dragged on.

The narrated isn't bad, but at times you can hear noise in the background, I could even hear someone talking in the background... Or maybe I'm going mad

Strong beginning

This was adequately performed and the stories and poetry were good. But I bought this as a gothic horror genre piece, and the stories, especially toward the end were more larkish

An interesting anthology, but an eclectic one...
