Publisher's summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Return to the Scholomance—a school of magic unlike any you have ever encountered—in the stunning sequel to the Sunday Times best-selling A Deadly Education, the start of Naomi Novik's groundbreaking crossover series.

There are no teachers, no holidays; friendships are purely strategic, and the odds of survival are never equal. Once you're inside, there are only two ways out: you graduate, or you die.

El, Orion and the other students are faced with their final year—and the looming spectre of graduation. El is determined that her chosen group will survive, but it is a prospect that is looking harder by the day as the savagery of the school ramps up. Until El realises that sometimes winning the game means throwing out all the rules....

Wry, witty, endlessly inventive and mordantly funny—yet with a true depth and fierce justice at its heart—this enchanting novel reminds us that there are far more important things than mere survival.

Excellent

I can't wait to listen to the 3rd book. The story really took an interesting and unexpected turn!

Loving it

It’s got something good for the soul somehow. Makes you feel better about the world for a bit, which is a rare thing these days.

great second book

Not as good as the first book but still very good.
It would be a five star book if it did not end in the way it ended. I would like to go into detail about the ending but unfortunately that would ruin it for everyone else.

Like previous two...

The last book and I still don't know why I kept listening. None of them are great but like a silly soap opera, they keep you hooked word by word.

It gets so tiring

This book is filled with teenage angst, it's exhausting. El is way too dramatic inside her head. She's also way too powerful for the setting. Orion, on the other hand, has no personality at all.

This is the second book in the series, and both books ended with stupid cliffhangers. The stupid cliffhanger of book one served for nothing except more angsting in book two, so I'm assuming the current cliffhanger is fake too.

I might read book three if I end up with spare credits or there's a sale, but I'm not in a rush to do so.
