Publisher's summary

The latest installment of the New York Times best-selling Spellman Mysteries, a "series that keeps getting better and better" (Publishers Weekly), finds private investigator Izzy Spellman on the verge of losing everything.

Isabel Spellman is used to being followed, extorted, and questioned - all occupational hazards of working at her family's firm, Spellman Investigations. Her little sister, Rae, once tailed Izzy for weeks on end to discover the identity of her boyfriend. Her mother, Olivia, once blackmailed Izzy with photographic evidence of Prom Night 1994. It seemed that the Spellmans would lay off after Izzy was fired for breaching client confidentiality, but then Izzy avenged her dismissal by staging a hostile takeover of the company. She should have known better than to think she could put such shenanigans behind her.

In The Last Word, Izzy's troubles are just beginning. After her hostile takeover of Spellman Investigations, Izzy's parents simply go on strike. Her sister, Rae, comes back into the family business with questionable motivations. Her other employees seem to be coping with anxiety disorders, and she has no idea how to pay the bills. However, her worst threat comes from someone who is no relation. Within months of assuming control of the business, Izzy is accused of embezzling from a former client, the ridiculously wealthy Mr. Slayter, who happens to have Alzheimer's, which Izzy and he are diligently trying to keep under wraps. Not only is Slayter's business and reputation on the line, but if Izzy gets indicted for embezzlement, she'll lose everything - her business, her license, and her family's livelihood. Is this the end of Izzy Spellman, PI? The answer makes The Last Word, hands down, the most thrilling book in this best-selling, award-nominated series.

Don't leave us without more Spellmans!

Lisa Lutz, you may want a break from the Spellmans, but we don't! Please bring Izzy and the gang back! I like your other books, but I've bonded with the Spellmans and I miss them. Christina Moore is a great voice for Izzy.

Excellent

I thought this story was as awesome as the other spellman novels. I disagree with other reviews that say it was rushed. Still as hilarious as the rest. WISH FOR MORE SPELLMAN STORIES!! Always put a smile on my face even when having an awful day.

3rd Favorite Series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'd recommend it to certain friends who I thought would also appreciate the humor.

What does Christina Moore and Mia Barron bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Sometimes a narrator can add or detract from a story and here they do a great job of adding to it. They give personality to the characters that is neither over nor underplayed, its just right.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Nothing extreme but there were moments throughout the book that made me laugh out loud. I love books that make me laugh out loud.

Any additional comments?

I am a big fan of Harlan Coben and love his novels. I started reading his Bolitar series and listening to it in audio which I loved for the plot and the humor. When I was done with it I started looking for a replacement and found the Stephanie Plum series, which is a completely different style and humor but still made me laugh out loud. (lorelei's Lula is hilarious!) Once I got through with those, I've started looking for other replacements and have sampled several series, some that I really enjoy and now follow (this being one of them) but I still lean towards the ones that make me laugh.Whether its a dry sense of humor, sarcastic or wisecracking, I like books that make me laugh.

Its hard to find a series that has the humor AND a narrator that manages to portray it just right. This series is yet another style and slightly different humor but still delivers it consistently throughout the books as does Evanovich and Coben.

If you are also looking for replacements for these series, these are others I've found and enjoyed that also made me laugh and now follow. They are listed in order of preference. The titles I've included are a book from the series, not necessarily the first, but you can find the series by looking them up if you so desire.

Maggie Barbieri-Murder 101
Sandra Balzo's- Uncommon Grounds.
Terri Austin -Diners, Dives and Dead Ends
Deborah Coonts-Lucky Stiff
Rhys Bowen-Royal series
Dorothy Gilman-Pollifax
Elizabeth Peters- Curse of the Pharaohs

Series that are not as funny but still really liked and follow.
.Karin Slaughter
Lisa Gardner

Here are some series that after listening to first book didn't really fully satisfy. I am not saying that they are bad, maybe I needed to listen to more to get caught up in them but I either wasn't thrilled with narrator, the style or humor and they just didn't grab me enough from the first book to want to listen to more.

Leann Sweeney Cat series
Mollie Cox Bryan Scrapbook series
Diane Davidson Catering
Carolyn Haines -bones to pick
M Beaton, there goes the bride
Misa Ramirez - living la vida lola
kendel lynn- board stiff
Mary andrews -nanny series
Thomas Perry- metzgers dog

Farewell San Fran Luneys

It isn't the perfect ending to this series (or at least I think this is the end). Didn't care for Rae's part in this book - both the development of her character or he bit parts in narrative. The summing up was also rushed. However, Lizzy gets the redemption she's deserved.

Oh wow

In my opinion, a very disappointing ending. I kind of wish I hadn't listened to it. There were parts of this book that are just insurmountable. It almost ruined the rest of the series for me. However, I was glued to it and listened just as intently as any other book. The writing was just as good, the characters a little more annoying than usual but still the characters we love. It's just not a satisfying ending for me. Especially for Edward. Wtf seriously. And Al. Double wtf!! And as much as I hate to admit it, I guess I was hoping for the HEA in this book with Henry and Isabel.
I don't think it's over. I think the books will now start with Rae as the main protagonist but the damage is already done for me:(
