About this listen

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the most astonishing child prodigy in the history of music, is felt by many people to be the greatest composer who ever lived. Dominated and shaped by a highly intelligent but frustrated and ambitious father, his story sees the development of a unique genius, from precocious and often endearing childhood to liberated fulfillment, unexpected poverty, and a tragically early death. Generously illustrated by Mozart’s music, from his fifth to his final year, this portrait-in-sound reveals a fascinating yet elusive character, drawing richly on the words of the composer himself and those who knew him. This is the ideal way to understand more about Mozart the man, and his music. Throughout his life, he wrote numerous letters - to his father and his friends and pupils - and his musical colleagues wrote about him. On this entertaining recording, with parts read by various actors, Mozart himself comes to life - with his sublime music ever-present as his career unfolds.

Mozart, oh Mozart

I love these series. I love hearing about the works and life, while hearing the works. However, I don't think enough of the famous ones were worked in here. Why not?

Delightful

An excellent book on Mozart’s music and life. I wish it was twice as long or longer.

Audiobook Fan

Me encanta el formato de los audiolibros por la posibilidades para ilustrarlos musicalmente. En este caso me parece que menos adjetivos me hubieran hecho disfrutarlo más.

An Audio Book About W.A. Mozart-What's Not to Like?

An excellent primer for the music student and afficianato alike! Siepmann and his cast of actors bring us back to the 18th century, with dialogue based on letters to and from Mozart. There are many sides to Mozart; serious yet funny, devout yet course, deeply philosophical yet flippant. Yet one hears all of this complexity in his music. Siepmann chooses excerpts that are written along side of the events outlined in the chronological telling of Mozarts life stories. Mozart was ahead of his time; some of these excerpts contain motivic elements later used by Beethoven! His choice of performances are excellent, excepting one of two rather wooden renditions not up to the standards i have learned to expect from Seipmann.
I recommend this Audio book to anyone who is curious about Mozart, the man behind the music.
