About this listen

The one thing that could be expected to disturb the peace of life at Blandings is the incursion of imposters. Blandings has imposters like other houses have mice. On this occasion there are two of them--both intent on a dangerous enterprise.

Much more complex than I've come to expect from Wodehouse

The plot was much more complex than I've come to expect from Wodehouse. There's a lot of build up to get to the meat of the plot, but the ending is quite satisfying.

Audiobook narrator Jonathan Cecil is my favorite Wodehouse narrator, and he shines here.

Note: this recording was originally released on audio cassette, so there is a longer pause every 50 minutes or so.

A Chaotic Comedy of Dry Humor

That P. G. Wodehouse should have managed another triumph of chaotic comedy can't be expected to register as a surprise anymore. That it should have been performed with such skill might still be noted. I loved this entire experience, though it took some time to get off the ground. Give it a chance and some patience, it pays off!

So enjoyable

P.G. Wodehouse’s stories are such a great way to unwind. I can never predict how it will all turn out. His Jeeves stories are great and his stand-alone stories are just as fantastic. I’m an Anglophile and I love everything British but sometimes with these older books things go on without explanation as if it’s common knowledge but Wodehouse takes the time to explain the servant’s chain of status along with so many other things that I appreciate his stories even more.
Jonathan Cecil should be the only person to narrate P.G. Wodehouse’s stories….ever. The two should not be separated. His voice acting and the way he tells the story has me totally absorbed.

Fun Fun Fun

I can't say much about this book except that it's not to be missed. It's great fun built around a sweet story of comical characters.

Take a break from self-improvement, vampires, how [name here] beat drugs with Jesus and the latest anti-Obama conspiracy and give yourself a real light-hearted treat.

This book is just fun and a vacation from the real world.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

P.G. Gold

A classic Wodehouse tale based on his world and characters. A fun, light read. Narration is decent enough.

It is fresh

Delightfully witty and fabulous characters- and a romance (of sorts) as well- it was a surprisingly enjoyable listen!

Fun and funny

Any additional comments?

PG Woodhouse books are just plain fun! This is a good one: mystery, romance, and a dash of upstairs/downstairs.

Delightful story, well-performed.

I have read quite a few stories by PG Wodehouse and generally enjoy them but I think this is the best so far. The humor is superb and the characters are more complex. I found the narrator excellent though I would have preferred just a little more space between the sentences.

A great Wodehouse!

Wodehouse is a great pleasure, and a generally underrated author. too often, when lists of great authors are made, the comic ones are disregarded, as if the art of writing humorously is a second-rate art. However, the command of language and turn-of-phrase that Wodehouse enjoyed is first rate. It is damned difficult to be consistently funny. And this, one of his greatest works, exemplifies this skill.

Jonathan Cecil does justice to Wodehouse, although not quite reaching the art that Simon Callow did - the latter's performances unfortunately not being available anywhere anymore.

Fresh, but not new :)

Any additional comments?

I'm a big fan of Wodehouse. (Began reading him in my teens). This is good. Perhaps not his absolute best, but still a good listen. If you are new to Wodehouse, start somewhere else. If you are already a fan, you won't be disappointed. Just a warning to anyone who might make the same mistake I made: Apparently "Something Fresh" and "Something New" are actually the same book under 'adjusted' titles. I had to return one of them. :(
