The incident has haunted Sherry, and it causes her to dig into her family's past. Like many family histories, it is fractured and stubbornly reluctant to reveal its secrets. But Sherry is determined to know the full story. In a few days' time, her extended family will gather for a reunion, and Sherry sets off across the country with her mother, Dumpling, to join them.

Story
In 1869, Gloriana Womack's family is much smaller since smallpox killed her mother and two of her siblings. She lives in a modest cottage in Duluth, Minnesota, with her father and young brother, and she has dedicated her life to holding her tiny, fractured family together - especially as her father is frequently gone on long fishing trips. Their livelihood may come from the waters of Lake Superior, but storms on the lake can be dangerous, even to those who know it well. Luke Carson has come to Duluth to help shepherd the arrival of the railroad to the city's port.

Story
The Nielsen sisters have accomplished much in the past year, traveling west and settling in Nebraska. They are on their way to rebuilding their mother's garden, and their excitement only grows when they receive a letter from their brother Anders saying he's coming to visit with a friend from the war. However, none of that can mask their concern that they are quickly running out of money. Del's work teaching in town offers hope, not only to support her sisters but also to better her students' lives. Not all see it that way, though. An invasion of grasshoppers only makes things worse.

The Long Way Home
I did enjoy this third book of the series the most. Getting use to the Narration and especially liked when the children would speak. So glad I did finish all three although it was not the best of Lauraine Snellings series. A tough ending to a war story results.

Great series. Left me wondering what happens to Zachary. The civil war was so horrible to the deaths of so many and we get a glimpse in this story. It also shows redemption and how God is always there. Great narration

Faith and Grace
i wish their ,was a 4th book ,that her brother Zachary
would come around !That youngest sister would mature!
along with her husband .and bringing up their family
Like that ,,Meshach ,he wishes to retain Highwood name.
Because sisters , father was more a father than his own.
Where other master were cruel ,that is why they rejected their slave name !
Lastly Jessie Lynn ,said they were all eaguak ,color and class
did not matter !
I think the last book was the best .
Especially, wentb AAuntc Agatha came around to the same thinking as Jessilyn .,despite how she had been brought up!
Thaddeus realizr d staying with His uncle was not safe .
