About this listen
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!
SHORTLISTED FOR THE BAILEY'S WOMEN'S PRIZE FOR FICTION
The beloved debut novel that will restore your faith in humanity
When Rosemary Harper joins the crew of the Wayfarer, she isn't expecting much. The ship, which has seen better days, offers her everything she could possibly want: a small, quiet spot to call home for a while, adventure in far-off corners of the galaxy, and distance from her troubled past.
But Rosemary gets more than she bargained for with the Wayfarer. The crew is a mishmash of species and personalities, from Sissix, the friendly reptillian pilot, to Kizzy and Jenks, the constantly sparring engineers who keep the ship running. Life on board is chaotic, but more or less peaceful - exactly what Rosemary wants.
Until the crew are offered the job of a lifetime: the chance to build a hyperspace tunnel to a distant planet. They'll earn enough money to live comfortably for years... if they survive the long trip through war-torn interstellar space without endangering any of the fragile alliances that keep the galaxy peaceful.
But Rosemary isn't the only person on board with secrets to hide, and the crew will soon discover that space may be vast, but spaceships are very small indeed.
Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration and complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration so that listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Narrator was good, but it hurt my ears each time she suddenly screamed impersonating Kizzy character.
I barely managed to finish it.

It's nice to have a feel-good space opera
Not everything has to be guns-a-blazing. Ships don't have to explode, political assemblies, and sinister plots don't have to be the basis for science fiction. I didn't know what I was going in for, but was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed these characters and their growth over a short time.

road trip" sci fi with excellent narration
Reading the previous reviews, you either love or hate the production of the audible book with the music and sounds in the background: I loved it! I thought it really added to story and complemented the excellent narration by Patricia Rodriguez. Ms. Rodriguez is one of the few narrators that nailed all the voices, male and female, making each voice unique and believable, without having to resort to excessive and unbelievable changes in the tonality of their voice. She made each character come alive with their different personalities. Made listening an absolute pleasure. The story itself is a fun, unique and refreshing road trip sci-fi. Like all good road trip stories, this is all about the journey and the friends that are taking it together.

Great Story/SUPER distracting background sounds
This is a really entertaining and engaging story. The problem with this production is the sound effects and music in the background. Completely distracting and annoying. I really wish I could have just heard the story.

Not that thrilling
I didn't feel like there was anything "futuristic" about this novel. Basically an adventure book, and an exciting one.

Very enjoyable
I like both narrations of this book although I think lean a little more towards the original narration. Even with that said it's still a really good lesson. Best with headphones.
