About this listen

The strategists of Leviathan are cunning and devious. They also fear Captain Maddox because of his unusual luck, his ability to turn sure odds into a disaster for them. Before Leviathan begins its invasion of the Commonwealth, they want Maddox neutralized.

Thus, using elaborate deception, the strategists convince Star Watch that ancient doomsday weapons lie in the Aquila Rift. It’s a region of space 700 light years from Earth. Thick molecular clouds and dense gases hide its stars and planets.

As expected, Star Watch sends Victory and Maddox into the rift. There, the trap springs, and Maddox finds himself battling ancient entities, while the crew faces interment that could last until the universe itself runs down.

Leviathan has stirred dreadful forces in its effort to kill Maddox, forces that could mean the end of everything if Maddox and his crew fail to survive a lonely and haunted ordeal in underspace.

THE LOST PORTAL is book 20 in the Lost Starship series, a star-spanning saga of deadly space war and planetary struggles as told by millions-bestselling author Vaughn Heppner.

Riveting Story and Imaginative - 5 Stars

This series keeps getting better. I have read/listened to all 20 books and hope for as many as the Author cares to write with these characters. Someone should buy the movie rights or TV rights certainly there are enough stories for a good sci-fi series.

great book and awesome series

Even though I have not written a detailed review for any other book in this series, I cannot wait for book 21 of the Lost starship series. I love every single book of this series, and cannot wait to see what book 21 holds in store for Captain Maddox and his crew.

Too focused on Maddox

This has been a really good story since book 1. I’m not liking how the past couple books (this one included) are very focused around the lead character. I enjoyed earlier books where more of his ship and supporting characters take a larger role in the story. These past two have been heavily focused on Maddox, too much IMO.

Fingers crossed the next book gets back to the adventures of Captain Maddox and the crew of Starship Victory!

Abusive Captain Maddox

The story would be a lot better if Maddox was a more reasonable person. His wife acts like a 1950's wife. Always under her husband's thumb. It is sickly sweet moments when she says " OH my husband" and Maddox replies " do as I say"

Refreshing

One of my most favorite in the series thus far; my interest reignited to wish for the best for the crew and see what awaits in the future.

Keep your stupid religion out of an otherwise good story.

It is amazingly irritating for every third paragraph to have "oh jebus, please halp meh in this space universe situation that quite literally precludes your existence" and other stupid religious shit.

Getting dumber

Seems to be now promoting christian Viewpoints. Feels too male-dominated and having AI's reference the bible is stupid and poor writing.

More drama than usual

For some reason, this book annoyed me a lot more than any of the previous. Meta has became an overbearing drama queen baby, while Capt Maddox repeats "but I'm the Difar" at least once every 3 paragraphs it seems like. it went from him thinking that he might be Difar, and that might help him in certain situations, to I am Difar so no matter the situation I'll win or get out of it. Super alien AI's are no match for him regardless of the situation. On top of Mera speaking like she's from the 1800’s, with husband this, husband that, you can't leave me husband, even though I know that's who you are husband, you still shouldn't leave me to save the universe, I'm much more important! it's all becoming a bit tiresome. if nothing changes in the next book, I won't be wasting any more credits after that.
