Publisher's summary

Lisa Taylor had friends, family, and a job she loved back in Cleveland. But when her husband, Jeff, lands the promotion of a lifetime, she gives it all up to stand by him. Their whirlwind move to Miami feels like an adventure, and their idyllic new neighborhood is the perfect place to start a family. But their dreams are shattered when a stranger breaks into their house, holding a knife to Lisa’s throat before Jeff can chase him off.

Suddenly, every sacrifice Lisa made is like a loss she’ll never recover from. But Jeff makes it clear there’s too much at stake to return to Ohio. Isolated and afraid, Lisa becomes a hostage in her own home. She can’t shake the feeling she’s being watched. And with the man she married growing increasingly unrecognizable, she’s starting to wonder whether their hasty move was to pursue a better life - or escape a chilling past that won’t be outrun.

Great Story

This story came to life as the narrator guided us through this tale. I appreciate the narrator offering character development via experienced voice projection. I really enjoyed this author and narrator. Well done!

Very Well Done Suspenseful Psychological Thriller

Former journalist Rick Mofina must be pulling from his career in crime reporting to write this crazy psychological thriller. So many red herrings it keeps your head spinning.
About 1/3 of the way into this book I thought the story was so predictable. Half way through and I changed my mind and picked a different antagonist. Then 2/3 through and my theory was blown to bits! The remaining characters were either too nice or too obvious.
Lisa Taylor, the protagonist has a childhood secret that makes her feel guilty about her fortunate life. Her husband Jeff also has a childhood secret, but his is much worse and makes him appear less trustworthy. But he is also very volatile and if not kept in check can easily get out of hand. Lisa can trust no one and there’s a murderer on the loose.
Mark Owen does a great job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Surprisingly disappointing

I don’t remember the last time I read something of Mofina’s that wasn’t a 5 star read. So when I couldn’t bring myself to even finish this one, it was a huge surprise. I’m usually riveted and on the edge of my seat, but this one just isn’t even good. Literally, get any other book he’s written and you’re in for a treat.

story ok. narrator very difficult to hear.

Book was ok. Not the author's best.
This narrator was very hard to listen to. It was like hearing someone read during English class. I would have quit early on but stuck with it because of the author typically being very good to read.
Ended up with an "EH" feeling at the end. Not the best book.

Worst from an author I love Disappointing

I’m so disappointed. I love Rick Mofina. I’m very glad this is not the first book I ever listened to or I would never listened to any other books he wrote which I all loved.

This book is below his ability. So far I find myself doubting he wrote it.

Not even 1 character is likable. No one in the book evolves. The ending twist suspect villain is so obvious from the very moment he is presented in the first few chapters. The soon to be victims reactions to him, makes you sure of that, thus her future actions with him make no sense.

The story was simple, slow, and too many flat and uninteresting people that never grow. The twists and turns didn’t really exist. the ones the author try’s to put in, you could see coming a mile away. And the last minute “Hail Mary play that saves the day was so unbelievable it seemed that Mr Mofina had no idea how to stop a story that was going on too long. Or in my opinion, never should have started.

I’m really disappointed.

Boring

How can I return this? If the narrator spoke any slower, he’d be going backwards. His cadence was unnatural.
