Publisher's summary

"Ken Follett has done it once more...goes down with the ease and impact of a well-prepared martini." (New York Times Book Review)

His name was Feliks. He came to London to commit a murder that would change history. A master manipulator, he had many weapons at his command, but against him were ranged the whole of the English police, a brilliant and powerful lord, and the young Winston Churchill himself. These odds would have stopped any man in the world - except the man from St. Petersburg.

Highly recommend

I’ve read and listened to most of Ken Follett’s books. This one was a bit different but I was drawn in from the beginning. World War I and the events leading up to it is a favorite subject of mine. As always the history and facts are dead on. The real characters woven in are believable and add to the story. And the story… everything you’d want. The narration also spot on. Highly recommended.

Loved it!

I am now a huge fan of historical fiction thanks to Ken Follett! This is a great story on all levels, intrigue, love, regret all laced in with a beautiful backdrop of pre WW1 English and Russian upper class. I completely enjoyed it!

Riveting and well-spun!

I enjoyed every minute of this chapter in time. All aspects of pre-WWI English society were represented well.

Engrossing Story

Ken Follett is a master storyteller. Though he normally has a lot of characters in his very long tales, they are all drawn so distinctly that I never lose who’s who and, by and large, feel I know most of them personally. It’s not always the ‘bad guys’ who are really the ‘bad guys.’ I loved the book. Great reader, too.

bad ending, predictable story arcs

I do not understand I understand why the writer could start out so well and end so badly a lot of these story arcs did not have to go this way I didn't hate the characters until he started changing their outcomes

Historical Fiction by Follett

A wonderful listen enthralling as all of his work. None of the main characters were particularly sympathetic except Stephen, Lord Walden.

Typical Ken Follett, Richard Armitage is splendid.

A bit more in depth character construction than in the Pillar or Century trilogies and the pre WW1 period which Follet seems to love so much and excels at weaving does not disappoint. Armitage is a tremendous narrator and brings the story to life just as marvelously as John Lee did on the aforementioned trilogies. Worth the time!
