About this listen

Meet John Bannack. Jailed for a crime he didn't commit. Busted out of a Texas State Prison. Running for freedom and gunning for justice. They call him . . . THE MAN FROM WACO.

As a young man, John Bannack worked hard on his brother's farm—until times got tough and his brother grew desperate. Desperate enough to rob a bank. Unfortunately, John's brother left a trail that led straight to the Bannack farm. When a posse showed up to make an arrest, John made a fateful decision: He confessed to his brother's crime. Sacrificed his freedom for the sake of his brother's family. And doomed himself to a hard, hellish life in a rat-hole state prison . . . A man's got two choices in a place like that: get tough or get killed. For John Bannack it means this will be a one-way trip to Hell.

Bannack is on a work detail outside the prison. On the way back, Judge Wick Justice, who sentenced Bannack, tags along with the prison wagon, only to find he has involved himself in a planned prison break. When a gang ambushes the wagon and frees the prisoners, they bullet-blast the guards—and the judge takes a hunk of lead himself. But Bannack finds the judge alive and takes him to safety. In return, the judge releases him from prison and employs him as his bodyguard and avenger.

The Quiet Man

I really enjoyed the main character. No nonsense person, but very clever and articulate. A very enjoyable story. My only regret is that there is no sequel.

The man from Waco

This is the best book I've listened to in a while. This is a five star book. John goes to jail for a crime he didn't do. Because of brotherly love. He goes to prison and due to unusual circumstances he gets released. He becomes the judges bodyguard. This book held my attention from the first sentence. I didn't stop listening to it tell the end. John is smart, tough, loyal . There is a lot of things happening with the judge and John. I don't want to spoil it so I'll say it's full of action. This book is worth a credit (My opinion). I hope there is more audiobooks in this series. Joshua Saxon did an excellent job narrating this book. He has a great voice. If my review is any help will you please click on the helpful link below. This book was very well written with a very good storyline. The characters were written very well.

There was not anything I did not like in this book. The storyline moved right along, and the character seemed very very real. It was almost like going to the movies and watching a movie. I love the characters as they seem so real. Great Western.

An Honest Man

The way A Brothers Love remained steadfast though the cost was high and unjust and undeserved

Couldn’t stop listening

On a long trip, this book made it easier to travel. When I got 20 miles from home, I wished I had another 100 miles to go. Great story!

How John was able to keep his head as his world seemed to fall down around him.

How corrupt Judge Grant and his staff were. To what extent he would go to see the murder and death of both John and Judge Justice.

Couldn’t finish it

I listened to about 1/3 of this book before I had to bail. The writing is just not clever nor intelligent. The narration is not differentiated between characters. It was arduous.

Listened to this on twice.

William and JA Johnston always write good books and this one did not disappoint.
About a man that went to prison for his brother so that his brother could take care of his family. Can’t wait to read book 2 to see what kind of challenges this young man will have to overcome.
