About this listen

Alexander Hunt holds onto two secrets. Both could ruin his life, but one could end it.

The sudden move from Calgary, Alberta to the outskirts of Jasper during his senior year leaves Alex isolated in a cabin with bickering parents. He copes by taking daily hikes along the shores of Maligne Lake, until he meets a young man named Amulii. He’s huge, unkempt, and speaks broken English, but there’s something else uncanny about him Alex can’t quite place.

What starts as a frightening first encounter escalates the moment Amulii gives Alex a strange gift, revealing there’s something much wilder about him than meets the eye. Unbeknownst to Alex, this sets off a series of devastating events that sends both of them fleeing from an aggressive, well-armed militia in the forest.

As Amulii and Alex escape into the mountains, their bond strengthens as they learn from one another, and what was once distrust evolves into something much deeper. Despite that, there are only two questions burning Alex’s waking thoughts as they traverse the harsh wilds of western Alberta, waiting for salvation: will he be caught and killed, or will he lose the rest of his humanity to Amulii’s mistake?

Content warning: This book is intended for those over the age of 17 and contains explicit sex and graphic violence. While those themes are not prominent in the story, they pop up from time to time. In case this isn’t clear from the blurb or the website, this is a gay-centric paranormal romance with real biped werewolves. This is not A/B/O.

Honestly, loved every chapter. I can't wait to read more. The highs and lows were a rollercoaster ride. I had to force myself to take breaks because I needed to get to the next revelation.

I couldn't stop reading

I am currently listening to this again within a week of first finishing it. Once I started this book I could hardly bring myself to stop for a hour or longer. Even in my dreams I had it my mind. This is truly a beautiful and horrifying and true experience. The first time I finished it I was an absolute wreck and had a break down. It took me a bit to recover but once I did I could only smile and enjoy it. I really, REALLY hope there is a second book to this as it would make a legendary series!

Aeron Dusk. This is a fantastic book and thank you. But also flip you for the ending!!!

I also highly recommend his second book called The Varcross Key. It’s not a continuation of this book but another fantastic book!

Amazing storytelling

Not only was the voicing incredible but the story itself was fantastic. I finished my first listen within 24 hours of starting.

And now another 36 later I’ve blazed through both his latest book the Varcross Key and When Life Gives You Werewolves (a free novel length story on his website theliteratebeast.com)

Dusk is a master of perspective and the contrast between Alex and the other voice in his head could not be more stark and yet it is clear that they are one and the same.

A random retweet sent me tumbling into the world of the Mark of Amulii and I could not stop. MoA had me literally clutching my legs with a claw like grip in anxiety and anticipation at various points in the story. Each character within has multitudes behind them and exist beyond any stereotypical cliche found rampant in werewolf romance novels.

Dusk is a breath of fresh air in a world pungent with ABO.

I literally don’t think another writer has ever made me so ravenous for their stories. I could probably literally write essays about each of these books and the characters within. I can also definitely see the progress in Dusk’s writing over the years between these various novels.

However I will leave those essays to later and finish this little book binge with a one word review: Glorious.

Glorious and full of promise

I might be slightly in favor of the story. I have been around since the conception.

loved the story then and love the audio book now. I can't say I like the narrator, but they are not the worst I've heard. Would recommended if you are looking of a werewolf romance with some ups and downs.

Good story,

There is so much to cover in this review of this story, this adventure this audiobook took me on. From start to finish, I could hardly wait for an opportunity to continue listening to the story Aeron Dusk wrote and Creighton Bristy performed. It was as though I was in a true perspective of Alex, in every form and fashion. The emotions I felt, the reactions I made out loud at work or on the bus (getting me unwanted side eye from others) is was all wonderful. It has been so long since I had such an amazing experience from an audiobook. Dusk wrote such an outstanding story and Bristy’s performance was so emotional I got caught up in the emotions as well! I cannot wait for the next part of this story and hope Dusk continues this amazing work! Bristy, if you read this, you made all these characters come to life in my mind and now I both hope and fear what next for all of them. You both did such an AMAZING job! Keep it up!

P.S: I was helping out my store’s bakery, packaging cookies when listening to most of this (including chapter seventeen) so from now on whenever I smell fresh baked chocolate chip cookies, I’ll always think to myself “Ahhh…gay werewolves…” so thank you both for making cookies even better for me to enjoy! XD

An emotional rollercoaster of a ride of both story and performance, and I’m already running back round to get back on!

it is a well written and well paced story, at least I think so. and if you look in the dictionary under the definition for "trauma bonding" you will find this book title. it had momenets that made even my cold dead heart ache. their issues and conflicts they have with each other, and others, throughout make sense and they feel very much alive.

Amazing story telling. Voice actors hit it out of the park. I found myself crying quite a bit but in a good way. Hoping it gets a sequel.

A Sequel is a Must!
