Publisher's summary

Three stories. Three heroines. Three choices.

”The Maze”: Cadet Eppie Langtry navigates the cold and endless maze as part of the Academy's final training exercise. Her exploration leads her to a fellow cadet, and their combined curiosity triggers something no one expects - least of all the cadre running the maze.

”What Little Remains”: In a post-apocalyptic city, Kit ekes out an existence by tending to her rooftop garden. A rift in time brings her a new friend from the past - and something else far more menacing.

”Inside Out”: When Lexia befriends a girl from outside a luxury spa facility, she starts seeing the cracks in her mother's disastrous fifth marriage, the world in which she lives, and her own future.

The Maze was a Really Neat Unusual Story

THE MAZE was a pretty neat story and I like the direction CHARITY TAHMASEB is going with her writing. I think this could go into a longer story even. I found it to be unique and creative. It may have been somewhat hard to follow but I understood it.

ASHLEY KLANAC was the perfect narrator for the story. Had there been a different reader, this wouldn't have had quite the impact. She has great vocal skills and made it more enjoyable. I'll look for more from both in the future.

Interesting Stories but Slightly Hard to Follow

This was a little outside what I normally like to read in science fiction, but it sounded interesting from the start. The author combines three stories with the themes of alternate universes, other dimensions, and time travel.
All three stories were definitely interesting and kept my attention. The slight downside here was that I found them a little hard to follow. The first one was definitely my favorite and I would be interested in reading an entire full length book with the same theme.
If you're looking for a quick listen for a road trip or plane ride this is a good choice.

A dystopian tale in three parts

The narration for The Maze was done by Ashley Klanac who does a really nice job narrating these three tales. Her voice and inflection worked really well with the style that Tahmaseb was going for in these books. The quality was perfect and I had no issues.

My least favorite story of the three was The Maze, don’t get me wrong — I still enjoyed the story the other two just outshined it in my opinion. I think if it had some more time to develop and there was some more character development, it could have shined just as bright as the other two stories.

All three stories could have used a little more (that’s the problem with most short stories), but I think that they were better than others I’ve read in the past. Usually, in a short story, the author has to pick between the story and the backstory and usually most/all of the backstory gets cut.

I think that overall, these were a great collection of dystopian/sci-fi stories from an author who has nowhere else to go but up! Check these out if you want fast stories from a new author.

A Good Listen

Three well thought out stories that will challenge your imagination! All three were great and could be developed into a longer free standing novel.

Dystopian something something

Would you try another book from Charity Tahmaseb and/or Ashley Klanac?

Maybe, the short little stories were okay. They need a little more detail or less confusing concepts.

What could Charity Tahmaseb have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Little more depth maybe. I think I might have to listen to this again.

Fun YA read with a Vivid Imagination

This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast.

This collection of short tales showcased the author's vivid imagination - three very different girls living in very different futuristic worlds. Each girl is faced with the dilemma of a world that suddenly contains something quite different than she expected - what to do?

Charity Tahmaseb was a new author to me. I thought the writing quite decent and, as mentioned above, the world-crafting, brief tho it was, interesting. The target audience was clearly YA or slightly younger teens, which is not my preferred genre (and definitely NOT my current age /grin), but I did enjoy the book.

The reader (Ashley Klanac) used the perfect light, slightly high-pitched tone for a teen-aged girl, with emotional overtones that fit the scenes very well. I thought her narration enhanced the stories significantly.

Really neat futuristic stories.

Three short stories set in a possible futuristic world(s). Each one has its own unique setting but revolve around one thing, The Maze. Good characters and good stories. Really has the listener thinking.
