About this listen

From New York Times and USA Today best-selling author, Leylah Attar, comes a compelling, emotionally resonant new novel, set against the lush backdrop of the Serengeti.

Once in Africa, I kissed a king....

"And just like that, in an old red barn at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, I discovered the elusive magic I had only ever glimpsed between the pages of great love stories. It fluttered around me like a newborn butterfly and settled in a corner of my heart. I held my breath, afraid to exhale for fear it would slip out, never to be found again."

When a bomb explodes in a mall in East Africa, its aftershocks send two strangers on a collision course that neither one sees coming.

Jack Warden, a divorced coffee farmer in Tanzania, loses his only daughter. An ocean away, in the English countryside, Rodel Emerson loses her only sibling.

Two ordinary people, bound by a tragic afternoon, set out to achieve the extraordinary, as they make three stops to rescue three children across the vast plains of the Serengeti - children who are worth more dead than alive.

But even if they beat the odds, another challenge looms at the end of the line. Can they survive yet another loss - this time of a love that's bound to slip through their fingers, like the mists that dissipate in the light of the sun?

"Sometimes you come across a rainbow story-one that spans your heart. You might not be able to grasp it or hold on to it, but you can never be sorry for the color and magic it brought."

Mists of the Serengeti is inspired by true events and contains emotional triggers, including the death of a child.

WOW, just WOW

This is the book that you search for don't want it to end. Romance, suspense, tragedy, action, incredible location for the story, and maybe one of best epilogues I have ever heard, and add in great narration. Pay attention in the early chapters and the story will all come together and make sense. Why can't all audiobooks be this good?

Mists of the Serengeti

I really didn’t know what to expect with this book I just knew that I loved Zachary Webber's narration and thought why not give it a shot.

I am blown away with both narrators; this story is heartbreaking, sweet, intriguing and again heartbreaking. I was sucked into the story, who wouldn’t be? It starts right away. It took me some time to get used to Megan Tusings’ narration but once I did I was hooked. I even went back and a few parts just so that I didn’t feel like I was missing anything.

This is a story of living after loss. But neither one knows it until too late it is bittersweet. It is also magical; the setting of this story draws you as much as the story does. I loved Jack’s grandmother.

What these two characters do for each other is something we all hope for, it’s the thread of life, hope, the forgiveness we all want. They understood each other in different ways but also in the same way. Understanding is sometimes all one can ask for, and with that can you heal.

I am still in awe of this book the ending broke me and gave me peace it’s weird to say that but it did. I will be looking for more books by this author and the new to me narrator Megan Tusing.

HEARTBREAKING ENDING 😭

Listening to this story really got to me. Story shows how death affects people differently. Losing a child is the worst and trying to heal from it is a long heartbreaking process. I loved the way Jack and for got together. Hated how they left each other but glad how they ended up. Hated how the children were sold and killed and used. Hope something like this really doesn’t happen in real life. The epilogue was so 😞 sad. Only wished when Mo left message she would have mentioned Lily’s name. I also wished there bodies would have been found. 5 ⭐️ to the author I really loved this book listened to this book straight through, could not put it down. Well worth the 12-13 hours it took to listen.

Incredible Story & Listen🎧 Engaging & Heartfelt!

This book wowed me like no other, it is a step away from my usual genres but I am so glad I took that step, not only did it captivate my attention but it tugged on my heartstrings the entire time. Leylah Attar is a gifted author with a wonderful writing style, her way with words and descriptive details brings you right alongside the characters, allowing you to experience everything they are experiencing, what they are seeing, thinking and feeling. I was so into the book that nothing else around me mattered other than what was going to happen next. The characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with, it was easy to fall for and care about them too. My heart went out to the two lead characters, Jack Warden and Rodel Emerson, I could feel the pain from what and who they lost. Grief and guilt consumed Jack, and it was getting the best of him. Rodel took a trip to Africa to the last place her sister had been, and she stumbled upon something she was working on and wants to finish it for her. That leads her to Jack, who wants nothing to do with her or Scholastica, but Jack’s Goma, a very smart woman, was accommodating. Giving nothing away, I will just say that I loved how it all played out for Jack and Rodel, a friendship grew and a bond formed, two people from different worlds on a journey to not only to save others but themselves as well. I loved how their story played out, they faced obstacles along the way and there were some rough moments that took me to the edge of my seat and I was worried how it was going to turn out, but in the end it turned out how it was meant to be. This beautifully plotted story has plenty of drama, heartfelt emotions, some gut wrenching moments, angst, mystery, thrilling & suspenseful moments and a slow burn romance. And that epilogue, wow, that really got me. Leylah Attar, thank you for this exceptional story and emotional rollercoaster ride. I will think of this book every time I see a yellow balloon, and I absolutely loved the turtle’s name, such a philosophical choice.

🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Zachary Webber and Megan Tusing were the perfect cast to bring these characters and their story to life. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that fit the character’s persona to a tee, sounding believable and just as I pictured the characters to sound. Megan Tusing played Rodel’s role with perfection, she grasps her every emotion and has your feeling every single one, Zachary Webber did the same for Jack. Both were great at performing the roles of the secondary characters as well. These two superbly talented narrators are versatile voice artists and entertaining storytellers, their narration enhances this already exceptional story to another level. Thank you for this amazing listen.

Brilliant, Outstanding.

I'm at a loss for words. All I can say is brilliant, outstanding. A wonderful story of survival. I was hooked from the first page. Not only by the characters but also by the story line. Hard to listen to at some points yet so wonderful in others. Truly enjoyed it more than words can express. 5 stars by far.

CRAZY that only 82 people bought this audio??

I have purchased over 200 audios and lately, most of my purchases are returned. My audio" send backs' have language that I find disgusting, or there was poor narriation or the story revolves with horrific murders. This book is not anything like like that. This book held my attention and was done in 36 hours. It has intrigue, mystery romance, and humor.
This is a short review due to 5 previous reviews evaporated before I could send. A little temperamental software issue,
Again this audio screams to be heard. Exceptional !!
