About this listen

At the height of the Cold War, Captain Jake Grafton becomes entangled in the hunt for a spy selling high-tech military secrets to the Soviet Union. Naval pilot Jake Grafton flies fighter jets with ice water in his veins. But when he’s assigned a desk job in the Pentagon as the head of a top-secret stealth bomber program, his nerve is tested as never before. Colleagues die mysteriously, test flights are sabotaged, and the program is threatened at every level. America faces a deadly, catastrophic threat. If Grafton can’t infiltrate a web of espionage and counter-espionage centered round the deadly traitor, code-named the Minotaur, embedded in the highest reaches of the U.S. government, he stands to lose much more than just his career. The Minotaur is an exhilarating mixture of cutting-edge aviation, spies, and counter-spies, all set in the complex world of military technology R&D. In this unique espionage thriller written early in his career, Coonts’s extraordinary talent is brilliantly displayed.

Spy stories

The book is good, unlike previous stories however it’s a bit difficult to follow the back and forth perspective changes. Overall the story is enjoyable and toad and Reta are great characters that I look forward to seeing mature. I wish we could have heard more about flap, or Jake’s original Bn tiger.

Excellent plot!

MINOTAUR has less action than earlier Jake Grafton series novels as Jake lands in a staff job in the DC area. However, it is more espionage than earlier novels.

NOT ENOUGH POLITICIANS LEFT TO DIE BY THE MINOTAUR

Not very realistic. Except the normal corruption of Government Politicians, and Military/Industrial Complex Evil Crooks.

Staff Job?

This novel in the series involves acquisition, flying, spies and intrigue. One can hardly put the thing down. Jake and Toad test a stealth airplane, which I believe that the Navy cancelled (in real life). Names are cleverly camouflaged, but obvious for the time of writing...Secnav Lehman as Lanman, for example. Who would have thought that a staff job could be so exciting?

Liked the story, loved the ending!

I had a hard time with the beginning of this book, but I was glad I stuck with it. After the first couple of chapters I did not want to stop listening.
This is a great story, narrated very well.
You won't expect the ending the author used. It's great!

loved it!

Coonts delivers another great installment of the Grafton series! Great character development and awesome flying scenes. Was a bit slow to start as he set the stage, but took off from there and was hard to put down once started.

Narrator is excellent and gives characters their own distinction through his voice.

Good Read

this is book 4 and the Jack Grafton series. it was a good read and I like the way we follow Jake's career from Vietnam to DC. Reading the four books in order gives an interesting look at how choices and experiences develop character.
