About this listen

A book-loving whiskey distiller’s life is upended when a famous rock star moves to town and murders start occurring.

When famous hard rock musician Beau Arson moves to Notchey Creek, Tennessee, the small town is sent into a frenzy. Strange events seem to coincide with Beau's arrival, threatening the town's idyllic image and the much-anticipated autumn festival, Pioneer Days.

Whiskey distiller and nerdy wallflower Harley Henrickson lives a quiet life of books and hard work, having given up a Harvard scholarship to care for her late grandfather, whose distillery she has since inherited. Her life is upended when she and her best friend, Tina Rizchek, a rhinestone-and-stiletto-wearing caterer, stumble upon a disoriented drifter in the ditch, and soon after, a wealthy history professor is murdered. As Harley investigates the murder, memories from her own childhood begin to surface, and she unveils a dark secret connected to Beau Arson and prominent citizens in town.

In addition to sleuthing, other issues are causing Harley trouble. Professional football-player-turned-sheriff Jed Turner doesn't appreciate her interference in the murder investigation. The mayor and Chamber of Commerce president are convinced her pet pig, Matilda, is trying to ruin Pioneer Days. Her great-aunt, Wilma True - in between her hair emergencies - is on a mission to create matching festival outfits for Harley and her pig. And thanks to her great-uncle, Tater, she finds herself hauling a giant model cupcake, a pig, and an antique toilet in her truck - all in one week.

Filled with humor, heart-rending moments, and a cast of complex and eccentric characters, The Mist Rises over Notchey Creek is sure to please cozy mystery fans and those who enjoy books about small-town life.

Perfect story for a long drive

I started this book on a 3 hour drive home, today. The narrator does an excellent job making each character's voice distinctive and believable....I forget it is the one narrator spezking for all of the characters. There's just enough mystery & humor to keep me engaged in the storyline, but still focused on the road.
Also, I identify with the small town plot and the main character's style.😁

Excellent characters, humor, and heartfelt moments

This is a wonderful mystery novel, with a complex, intelligently designed plot, and a cast of complex and eccentric characters. The narrator's voice is perfect for the tone and rhythm of the story. It was a joy to listen to.

Loved it!

This is a well written book with something for everyone within the well constructed plot. The voice over is well done and appropriate to the region. Can't wait to find out what the characters are up to in book two!

I have been listening and love the book and enjoying it very much.

I have been listening and I’m enjoy the book very much. The different characters voices the way she changed them and how funny they are. Overall the book is really good. I love it. Can’t wait till the next book that comes out. My daughter always wanted to write a book or do an audio. She really loves books and reading books when she was little. I hope she makes a career out of it. Maybe someday she will write her own books and narrate them also. I’m so proud of her and if her grandmother was here she also be proud of her.

Lovely book! It’s a breath of fresh air

I am a voracious reader and this has become one of my favorite books. The atmospheric quality takes this cozy mystery to a new level. The characters are well developed and lovable. This is the kind of book you become all engrossed in, the kind you read and re-read because you want to visit with these people in this place once again. The other books in the series are also fabulous, much better than most on the market. I believe this author is destined to be award-winning and take her place with some of the best mystery writers out there!

Not for me

This is an ok story but, it's not for me. I didn't really like any of the characters, especially Harley. She's homely and plain, but, she's such a good person that everyone loves her. The ones who do not like her hate her because no expectations are placed on her. The mystery is complicated and there are several twists and turns. However, after a while I got tired of the characters and skipped to the end of the story. Jamiy McMasters is an ok narrator, but I was expecting the characters to have a southern accent. I won't be getting the next book in this series.

It took me a while to get into this book and I had to force myself to finish it. The characters didn't appeal to me very much. They were flat and uninspired. The mystery was pretty good but the pace of the story was slow.
