Publisher's summary

Hanuman, the red-faced monkey chief and ninth grammarian of Hindu mythology, is the protagonist of this dazzling narrative - a mind-journey to the temple of Galta in India and the occasion for Octavio Paz to explore the nature of naming and knowing, time and reality, and fixity and decay.

Editorial reviews

A poetic and deeply surrealistic work, Octavio Paz’s The Monkey Grammarian - translated for this audiobook by Helen Lane - is an intricately woven tapestry of rich language and description, a whole world unto itself, in which you may, thanks to Daniel May’s lyrical performance of the text, linger for a while, fully immersed.

May has a wonderful sense of timing, and his voice ebbs and flows in perfect tune with Paz’s dense prose, which, in simplest terms, follows Hindu mythological figure Hanuman, the Monkey Chief, on a spiritual journey to the abandoned Indian town of Galta. The Monkey Grammarian requires careful attention; but it will prove an immensely rewarding work for the devoted listener.

A perfectly written book

A great book that I found to be interesting and worthwhile. This book has proven to be maturative and developmental for a young man coming of age such as myself. I further highly recommend this book.
