About this listen

I didn’t know I was a captive. How could I? I didn’t have my memory. He could have told me anything about the world, and he did.

And I believed him.

Until the day a mysterious stranger showed up, killed the man I’d believed was my husband, and decided to take me with him.

I don’t know what he plans to do with me, but it can’t be anything good.

But hey, at least the world still exists.

The Monster Keeps Me Safe is a dark romance stand-alone with an HEA and no cliff-hangers.

Tropes: mistaken identities, kidnap, contract killer.

Which reality is real?

Kitty Thomas is the queen of mind twisting stories that always seem to leave your mind reeling at the end of her books, and this book is no exception. The Monster Keeps Me Safe starts out making you question what's going on seeing as how our heroine awakes in an theme park broken down pirate ship of all places. Oh and the heroine Elodie has no memory of how she ended up here with her husband Trevor, but even more worrisome than the amnesia is the world Elodie wakes up too...

"Now, everything was back to the law of the jungle. And brute strenght was king."

The Audible narration brought this book to life for me in a way just reading it could not. The narrator was spot on and added to the personality of the characters instead of being distracting or not what you would imagine the characters to sound like. This narration did a great job of immersing the listener in the story and making you feel like you are there and a part of the story as it plays out.

Monsters come in many forms

NSFW. Dark and disturbing but also compelling. What does it mean when you are rooting for the monster of the title? How did she do that? This is my first Kitty Thomas story. This poor woman is kidnapped not once but twice! What unfolds is an interesting tale of waking to a bizarre situation and an even more bazaar rescue. [trying not to leave spoilers]. If you are not a fan of dark romance, why are you even looking at Kitty Thomas' books? If you are, I can recommend this one. As an audio book - we can all agree narrators can make or break it. Lucy Rivers, Teddy Hamilton deliver.

Great Story and Narration

I've read this story before and really liked it, so thought I'd give the audio book a try. I was blown away by the narration. The story was enthralling and I was fully emersed in it. This is one you won't want to miss.

Fascinating!

This is a rebrand of Tebula Rasa. New name, new cover, and new to me. One I had never gotten a chance to read or listen to before, but am glad I finally did. Elodie wakes up in a pirate ship and doesn’t remember anything. And is told the world is pretty much over as she knows it. That in and of itself is frightening. But that’s not where things end. They once again take another turn for her. And all I’ll say is things get quite fascinating from there. Definitely something you need to grab & read! And also take a listen. Lucy Rivers does a great job narrating this story.

Dark Romance!

This was a great book. I love the dichotomy of both Elodie’s and Shannon’s personalities. And how they learn that they need each other to be a complete person. The narrator does a great job bringing them to life. And I like that she uses appropriate accents for each character. I hate when southern speaking characters don’t have an accent in the audiobook. But Lucy Rivers does it right. If you like dark themed, extreme circumstanced thrillers then this is the book for you

The Monster Keeps Me Safe

There will be people who may not like this one, but it really is a great read. I started listening Kitty Thomas's work more recently. So I haven't listened to much of her older books yet, and you can tell she has grown as an author. That being said she also was a really great author before as well. I was still completely sucked in and could barely put the book down! This one felt a bit shorter then some of her other books, but also didn't slouch on an engaging story. Kitty Thomas is also known for her twists in her books, and this one was a doozy. In the end I think the story was they way it should've been. And if you want to know why I say that, then I suggest you go up and buy this book!

I also liked the way the narrator read this one. she has a very pleasant voice to listen to for me and I enjoyed the book with her reading it.

Elodie

The story
I really enjoyed this book Elodie and Shannon were great characters. I loved all the twists that happen in this book and how Elodie has to navigate all of them while dealing with Shannon. Shannon on the other hand is such a wild character you never know what he's going to do and this keeps Elodie on her toes. The ending was as always a great trip. Another great story by Kitty.

The narration
I've heard a couple of books narrated by Lucy Rivers she's a good narrator and does characters well.

I love her work, this one wasn’t as dark as I hoped, but still a good read.

Shannon is my new book boyfriend

Again Kitty gives us wonderful writing and a complex and riveting story line. I was captivated from chapter one. I could not stop listening and became immediately invested in the main characters happiness. I absolutely love love love Shannon and he is my new book boyfriend! No wonder she is referred to as the dark romance genre queen, she surly knows how to write a captivating story. Lucy Rivers narrated this story and she did a great job portraying each character and really bringing them to life. Five hot alpha stars.

Dark and delicious

Like all Kitty Thomas books, this is dark and delicious. And like her other books, it's hard to write a review that doesn't contain spoilers. If you are a newbie, this is a good way to dip your toes into the world of awesomeness that is a Kitty Thomas book. Elodie is a complex character. She has no memories but certain aspects of her character still peek through. There were some interesting twists I wasn't quite expecting. Overall I really enjoyed the book. However the ending seemed a bit abrupt to me. I wasn't quite ready to let the story go yet. But still a very satisfactory read.

Typically I prefer dual narration but the single was perfectly fine for me on this one. It was well performed and easy to listen to.
