Another 5 star story!!

Listening to this audiobook, was the second time I’ve revisited this story. Three years ago, Clair was kept hostage for 43 long days and tortured to the point where now that she escaped, she’s still unable to lead a normal or productive life. She’s always watching her back, just waiting to be taken again. Then she spots her tormentor and is torn up that he’s just living a normal life, doing normal things, like he’s a normal person. This angers her so much that her only choice is to seek revenge. She’s going to capture and torture him, just like he did to her, except, his death is going to conclude his captivity. It’s a fail proof plan, except that she captures the wrong man!! The majority of the story is about what happens after she realizes she’s caught and tortured an innocent and very attractive man, who’s hell bent on getting his revenge on her. Kitty’s writing is really above average, her mind is out of this world and her writing god(s) are unmatched and always help her produce stellar stories such as this one. Ive read all of her stories at least once, and am working my way to reading each once at least twice.
The narrators, Tor Thom and Charley Ongel did a great job capturing the voice of Clair and Ari. This was my first experience with the duet type of narration, where the woman narrator read all the female lines of speech and thought, and the male narrator read all the male lines and thought. It was much less confusing that other narrations of stories, where one narrator is portraying the parts of both the male and female characters. I’d definitely listen to other stories narrated by the pair.

Freaking awesome!

Oh I have read this book probably around 10 times, it’s a comfort read for me, might seem strange to some but oh well. However, I was overcome with giddiness when this arrived on audible, the duel narration and these narrators were everything I didn’t know I needed. I kept going back to listen again and again. Love all the dark and dirty being spoken aloud and laughing with the humerus parts. Highly recommend if you like some dark romance!

Twisted and Hot

I read the book Escape Artist and loved it but I have to say I loved the audible version so much more. It brought the book and the characters to life. I felt as if I was feeling their emotions through the words being read. It was as if they drew you into the storyline and that's where you stayed. They did a fantastic job with this narration and I hope to hear more from them in the future!!!

So captivating!!

I read this book when it first came out. I always prefer audiobook format since I love to multitask so I was so happy when I heard this was being released as an audiobook!!

I loved the narrators! They only enhanced this story for me! I loved Tor Thom’s deep voice narrating Ari’s POV and Charley Ongel was perfect as Claire’s POV!!

Claire is quite the dynamic character! She starts timid, scarred by the horrors she endured in captivity. After spotting a man who she believes was her captor, she quickly shifts to cold and calculating, filled with rage and hell bent on getting revenge on the monster who held her captive. As the story progresses, she rediscovers her confidence and sense of self and has lots of hot and steamy moments along the way.

I’m pretty sure I say this about every one of Kitty’s male leads, but Ari is just molten sex appeal. I’d 100% recommend this book for him alone!

Claire and Ari

This book was awesome! I loved Claire and Ari. Claire had so much guilt and anger bottled inside her i'm actually surprised she managed to kidnap Ari and do the things she did to him. When things turned around I didn't know how it was going to go down. I liked that we got to see Kane and Saskia that was a lot of fun. I really liked the chemistry and dynamic between Ari and Claire despite how their relationship started. The ending was a total shock! I did not see that twist coming! I love when I can't predict the ending it's so much fun! I really liked that this book felt like it had a complete ending even though most of Kitty's books tend to end on kind of a cliffhanger, I'm glad that didn't happen in this book Claire deserved to have a nice ending. A wonderful story.

Narration
I loved the narrators in this book! They were so good. I really like this kind of dual narration because it's really hard to find. Instead of having the female narrate a whole chapter from the woman's point of view and the male narrator reading the whole chapter from the man's point of view they each do all of the lines for each the female and male lead and it goes back and forth throughout the chapter. Makes it feel like the narrators are the characters instead of just reading a book I really enjoy this style of dual narration. A great book!

Electric from start to finish!

Want to know what happens when the captor becomes captivated by her captive?

Claire has been through a lot and finally she is this close to getting her vengeance. Lines become blurred when she starts to feel things for a man she believes was her aggressor. She soon finds out that all along she has had it all wrong.

Ari does not know why this is happening to him. He is determined to find out why this woman decided to do what she has did to him. He is starting to see Claire's vulnerabilities and wants to give her what he knows she needs.

Their story is dark, tragic, electric, and holds so much passion. I enjoyed the narrators for this one, they did a great job bringing Ari and Claire to life. Definitely a must listen!

Even better in audio!

The narrators did an amazing job bringing this story to life! I know I'm in for a treat every time I open a new Kitty Thomas book, but the Escape Artist exceeded my admittedly high expectations! The Escape Artist is the story of Ari who we met in The Con Artist (if you haven't read this book then what are you waiting for?). A woman broken buy her traumatic past, a man both desperate and conflicted about taking what he needs, and an extreme case of mistaken identity combine to create the kind of story I'll keep going back to time and time again. I adore both main characters in this book. I fell for Ari while reading The Con Artist and Kitty Thomas definitely delivered when it comes to his character. What a complex, noble, caring, compassionate, dominant, not to mention unbelievably hot hero! Clair is no less intriguing - both broken and fierce, torn apart by inability to reconcile her desires with her past trauma. Aside from the psychological intensity of this story, it is also extremely steamy and hot! Ari and Claire's chemistry is undeniable, not to mention the addition of some beloved characters in the mix. I won;t give spoilers, but will say that those who read The Con Artist, will be very satisfied by certain parts of this story. Last but not least, I love Ari's interactions with his other pet (you'll have to read the book to find out who it is!). An absolute must read for all fans of Kitty Thomas or anyone who is thinking of dipping their toes into the magical world she creates!

So glad that there are Kitty Thomas audiobooks

This is a revisit for me. I read this book when it was first released. I was excited to revisit it on audio. It was just as much fun the second time around.

This story starts three years after Claire escapes her kidnapper. He kept her in a basement for 43 days before she escaped. He did horrible things to her during that time and it broke her. She is barely able to get through the day and going out of her apartment is worse. That is until she sees her captor. Now she has a purpose, to get her revenge.

This story not only overlaps with The Con Artist, but also The Pleasure House series. Each story stands alone, but characters you meet in other stories make an appearance. It is a nice tie in without missing anything if you haven't read the other stories.

Narration
This was my first time listening to Tor Thom and Charley Ongel. The style they use is called a Duet (or at least that is how I've heard it referred to in the past). The male narrator reads every line that any man says and the female narrator reads every line any woman says. Same is true for the non-dialogue parts, the narrator is chosen based on who's POV. So, there is a lot of back and forth between the narrators. It takes a little bit to get used to. I've only listened to a few stories in this style (I've listened to moer dual narration, where both narrators read all the voices, the narrator is chosen based on the POV at the time, there is less back and forth. Usually a narrator gets a full chapter at a time). It isn't a bad style, just not something that I'm used to.

As for the two narrators, Tor Thom and Charley Ongel, I liked both of their voices. I liked how they portrayed each character. They really pulled out the sensuality of the story. I would gladly listen to them again.

My favorite book!

This was a REALLY great book! It was dark and steamy and had me as a reader feeling so many different things! Which I love! I totally loved Ari and how he was everything Claire needed. Claire was also a bit of a different character for me. She was strong but also easily submissive. So she gave in a lot. But she still ended up being a great character that I totally enjoyed reading because she had a reason for giving in that was still strong.

The performance of the voice actors was really good. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was because the male voice actor does the voice for the guy who kidnapped Claire. It just threw me off for a bit until a couple of chapters into the book. That being said I ended up liking how he read the book for everything else. Totally recommend this one!
