About this listen

When Anthony Walker bought five brass monsters at Morley Manor, he didn't suspect that they were real - or that thawing them out of their frozen sleep would pull him and his sister, Sarah, into a galaxy spanning adventure. But soon those two brave kids have to deal with monsters, aliens, giant frogs, a tragic angel- and an eerie trip to the land of the dead. Yet for all its madcap weirdness - for all its laughs and spooky thrills - at its heart Morley Manor is about the bonds that hold us together as families.©2001 Bruce Coville (P)2002 Full Cast Audio Fantasy Fantasy & Magic Fiction Humorous Fiction Comedy Celebration Heartfelt

Editorial reviews

The adventure begins at a Nebraska garage sale, where a boy and his younger sister buy a wooden box containing five monster figurines. The action doesn't let up until sixth-grader Anthony and his sister have been transported across the galaxy and back. Bruce Coville's funny sci-fi adventure is read in its entirety by a thirteen-person cast, including Leslie Nobel narrating as Anthony and Coville as the lizard-headed Gaspar Morley. The story - something that can only come out of a mind like Coville's - is irresistibly entertaining and constantly surprising, not only for the preteen crowd but for their parents as well. There are no bells and whistles; this production is a straight reading from the book without staging or sound effects. Leslie Nobel does a good narration but is not quite convincing in a few spots.

Excellent!

I fully enjoyed this story... and I don't have kids!! The production is well done, very entertaining, easy to listen to, well-'acted'. I highly recommend it for people with (and without) children!

Loved it!

This is a great story for all ages! The writer has a great deal of imagination and tells a fantastic story. Also, he deals with ethical issues not normally found in children stories.

Fun!

This book was just fun to listen to. It was fast moving and I totally enjoyed the different character voices, it made them more realistic that way.

Nice Family Story

This is a nice story to share as a family. It is funny and inventive. Sometimes it verges on the silly but that is just fine.
