About this listen

The latest saga in the New York Times bestselling world of Osten Ard concludes in the fourth and final Last King of Osten Ard novel.

The Hayholt is in flames. Once the home of the immortal Sithi, now capital of the kingdom of men, the fabled castle has been set ablaze by vengeful Norns. And as the world is distracted by this devastating attack against humankind, the Norns' deathless witch-queen Utuk'ku reaches out to seize the fateful, ogre-haunted valley called Tanakirú—the Vale of Mists.

Fooled by the Norn Queen’s trickery, Simon and the Sitha Jiriki must now leave the burning castle behind to race to the forbidden valley. But the undead spirit known as Ommu the Whisperer travels with them, hiding in the body of Simon's granddaughter Lillia. Meanwhile, Queen Miriamele hurries to save the Hayholt and capture the treacherous noble Pasevalles, but arrives to discover the castle is on fire and the traitor has escaped.

And in Tanakirú, the bond between Prince Morgan and Nezeru, a renegade Norn, has become something deeper and stranger than either of them could have anticipated. Accompanied by Morgan's troll friends Qina and Little Snenneq, they journey ever deeper into heart of the valley’s mystery, encountering wonders and horrors, only to come face to face at last with the ancient secret that has kindled the Norn Queen's war—a secret that threatens to destroy immortals and humans alike.

Best fourth book of a trilogy ever.

This series is phenomenal. Just excellent. Tad Williams knows how to build an immersive world with relatable believable characters. This book is possibly the best fantasy book I’ve ever read.

OUTSTANDING

It did everything a concluding book should. It wrapped everything up perfectly but provided a few seeds of what could happen next. If you love the ending to LOTR where the biggest danger ends at about 65 percent of the way through and has a very leisurely ending you will love this. Lots of answers finally! Lots of death and happy moments so its very bittersweet.

Excellent!

This is how a great author concludes an epic series. Every book revealing more of the story and clarifying the past. This book was well worth the wait.

Collision Course of Characters

Wow, wow, WOW! This epic series conclusion was such an exciting journey of beloved characters! From enormous discoveries, to gorgeous character arcs, and to the satisfactory intertwining of plots...this series has it all. Not to mention, the voice performance was perfection in every book. The series is a big reading commitment, but I recommend the whole of it to all lovers of high fantasy. This final installment was such a joy to read. Thank you, TW.

This book was such an incredible ending to the series that wrapped everything up and was an entertaining wild ride throughout. Not a moment felt unnecessary or out of place, and Andrew Wincotts performance was incredible

Sad the story is over

Tad Williams masterfully wove together all of the puzzle pieces of this vast and world building tale in a thoughtful and complete way.

All of our beloved characters found their way to the various locations & drama there, we were educated on long standing lore, the fight for life over death came with a climax both heartbreaking and joyful and the ending set the stage for a future including all of the characters we’ve come to know & love for many years.

My biggest complaint is how much I will miss the future of Osten Ard and all of the people I’ve come to love.
