Publisher's summary

When young Neddie Wentworthstein is accidentally left behind by his family at a train stop in the Wild West, he suddenly finds himself at the center of a whirlwind adventure involving sinister villains and extraordinary new allies - all seeming to revolve around a little jade turtle given to him by a mysterious shaman.

Daniel Pinkwater, renowned for making young readers grin and chuckle, creates an imaginative odyssey into 1950s childhood nostalgia in The Neddiad.

So sad it's over

An enthralling story of heroic adventure. I kept reaching to put more time on my sleep timer. Bet it's a while before I find another I like as well.

The Narration is the Secret

I'm not really into kids books, but Daniel Pinkwater writes his stories in the tone of a person writing out a journal. The Neddiad is a great example of his style. Short, quirky, loaded with odd names, vintage references, fantastical events and at least one character named Melvin.

Daniel Pinkwater himself is the perfect narrator for his stories. Something about his voice and delivery is so fun and endearing. Check out The Pinkwater Podcast for some examples of this if you don't want to jump straight to a purchase. He reads Borgel and Yobgorgel on his podcast, and they are also fantastic listens.

I'm a fan!

Lots of Chuckles

Think "The Iliad" - The Neddiad is a funny and engaging tale about the journey of a boy and his eccentric family. Entertaining and clever - this was a family favorite of ours this summer (children 7 & 9, girl and boy). We all agreed that Mr. Pinkwater's narration added to the ambience of the story. The audio quality was excellent.

Melvin, the shaman. Although, the Fins were quite exceptional as well. And Neddi of course was brilliant.

Which scene was your favorite?

Too many to count.

Laugh out loud many times. Just adored it.

Any additional comments?

The author is a brilliant narrator. Excellently done, loved every minute. Wanted it to keep going forever.
