Publisher's summary

Through this novelized history of the Soka Gakkai - one of the most dynamic, diverse, and empowering Buddhist movements in the world today - listeners will discover the organization's goals and achievements even as they find inspiring and practical Buddhist wisdom for living happily and compassionately in today's world. The book recounts the stories of ordinary individuals who faced tremendous odds in transforming their lives through the practice of Nichiren Buddhism and in bringing Buddhism's humanistic teachings to the world. This first volume looks at events that occurred in 1960 when Soka Gakkai was first brought to North and South America from Japan. This inspiring narrative provides listeners with the principles with which they can positively transform their own lives for the better and realize enduring happiness for themselves and others.

Deep, thoughtful and honest telling of life’s struggles and victories.

I liked everything. The late Mr. Ikeda was able to impart difficult Buddhist teachings to a whole new generation of young people.

Best Book Series on the Planet!

Never has an all encompassing book series accomplished so much and provided such a clear guide on what is ethical and proper behavior for a human being. Whether you practice buddhism or not it is eye opening to read someone who has no goal other than the happiness of others and has lived a full lifetime dedicating and working towards this end.

The vow to the peace and prosperity of all mankind

Daisaku Ikeda gives clear and heartfelt guidance to young and old on how one should live as a human being. He establishes high expectations’ particularly for the promising youth on how to make a vow to succeed, work tenaciously toward that target and never give up no matter what. Such instruction to our youth on how to win in every endeavor is instrumental in building the character needed for our future leaders. He helps to build the moral character our society longs for which should be part of any Schools curriculum.
