About this listen

Award-winning author Susan Carroll captivates critics and fans with her haunting, magical romances. Such accomplished peers as Nora Roberts and Iris Johansen offer high praise for her unforgettable characters and riveting plots.

Returning from the Battle of Waterloo, Lance Leger is heir to the family castle on the Cornish coast, a burden that weighs heavily on such a scoundrel as he. Gifted with supernatural powers, he can separate his soul from his body to go "night drifting".

When the family icon, a magnificent ancient sword, is stolen, he uses his power to search for it. Drifting through the walls of the village inn, he surprises Rosalind, a beautiful young widow. For both of them, it's love at first sight.

He has a problem, though: she's convinced that he's the ghost of Sir Lancelot. And she can't abide the arrogance of the real Lance Leger.

The charming and versatile Barbara Rosenblat sets the perfect tone for this magical, atmospheric romance. As Lance strives to win Rosalind's heart, listeners are swept along in a spellbinding combination of passion, mist, and moonlight.

The Night Drifter

The story is good, I really enjoyed it. But, the reading of this book was terrible, I wanted the reader to get some water her voice was so dry sounding. The trouble is that a female was reading this book when a man needed to read it. Audible should always have a man read the man's parts and a woman to read the women's parts. A women deeping her voice to sound like a man just ruins the story. This book was ninty percent the man's story, what a shame it was ruined by having a woman reading it. Please audible take note of this, we pay too much for audible books to have them done so poorly.

This was the 2nd book of the St. Leger Triology

If you could sum up The Night Drifter in three words, what would they be?

Camelot meets St. Legers

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I really loved the St. Leger backstory. However, Rosalind started to get on my nerves, she was so immature. I understand she was very sheltered, but she really made my eyes roll a few times. I also felt Lance needed a kick in the ass when he started all the "woe is me" business. I was also sad she killed of Vicar Fitzleger (the bride finder in the first book) and left us with his good for nothing granddaughter Effie. I absolutely hated that character! It was a fun story though.

Which character – as performed by Barbara Rosenblat – was your favorite?

My favorites were Rafe (of course), Val, and Kate.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I read the book when it originally came out and I really enjoyed it. So it was a nice to revisit.

Any additional comments?

I absolutely loved the first book in the series - The Bride Finder. I so wish Audible had that one title as well as the third and final book of the series, Midnight Bride.

The narrator

The story was really good, the narrator Barbara Rosenblat on the other hand was entirely awful! You can hear her swallow every 3rd or 4th sentence. I could barely finish listening to it, that's how irritating the swallowing was. Just a word or warning, watch out for any books read by this narrator.

Good story, terrible narrator.

I bought this back when it was on sale. This is the second book in a Trilogy (it can be read by itself though) and I held off listening to it, hoping the other books would come on Audible, but they never did. I have read all of this series and enjoyed them, the 3rd book is my favorite and I'm bummed that it isn't on Audible. Relistening to it makes me realize how naïve the heroine is, and that was in the eye rolling department, but the story is a nice romance with just a hint of paranormal in it. I listened to the narrator many times before and she always sounds like an old smoker. The worst part of the narration is you can hear her swallow all the time, I could have lived with the smoker's voice but the swallowing is very annoying.

Worth a listen

I enjoyed it the narrator was really good, I thought there would be more magic in it and not quite so much pining for love. Probably not like some of my other books of hers that I have read over and over.
