Publisher's summary

Victoria Gracen's life in middle age has settled into a round of club meetings and faithful attendance at her Presbyterian church. But all that changes when she invites her newly orphaned 16-year-old nephew (whom she's never met) to come live with her.

Dick Gracen, a city boy from Chicago, finds life in the Gracen mansion, attended by servants, a startling change. He's charmed by his lovely aunt who hopes to introduce him to boys of good character.

But Dick's new friends turn out to be the small town's "bad boys" and soon, Miss Gracen finds herself surrounded by a crew of delightful, totally misunderstood fellows. She's invited to join in their hikes and sledding expeditions; through them, she's introduced to the new ragtime music and she, in turn, shares her love of literature and classical music. In 1915 small-town America, "keeping the Sabbath" means no frivolity of any kind, the day of the week that all these boys dread. But soon "Miss Vic" dreams up weekly meetings at her house with appropriate activities that entertain and instruct.

The town gossips are shocked by this strange goings-on. It doesn't take long for the rumors to start that Victoria Gracen is "obsessed...with boys".

Heart-warming Story

Grace Livingston Hill is such a talented author and skilfully wrote a lovely book of how one lady changed the lives of many young men ny her selfless service.

Anne Hancock did a superb job narrating. I trust she will narrate many more Grace Livingston Hill books.

A Classic Story Anyone Would Love

The Obsession of Victoria Gracen is a perfect story that demonstrates the beauty and power of a true Christian life—something that is rarely witnessed. Some are scandalized that the lady dares to share her home and her life with boys who have bad reputations. The bad guy in this story, though, is a churchgoing gossip. (This book should be at least as well known as Pollyanna.) I highly recommend this book, which is a completely different kind of love story.

The best of GLH!

The obsession of Victoria Gracen is well-paced, moving forward in a logical fashion. She leaves nothing out and the story ends satisfyingly, with full explanations.
As much as I admire the books of this author, this book is the only one of which I can say these things. This is a terrific story as it follows Richard change from an uneducated ruffian into a beautiful soul with a loving heart. Every character evolves into a better person, even Victoria Gracen as well as her nemesis, who makes a complete transition.
My favorite GLH book, ably read by Anne Hancock. It’s well worth the credit.

Full blown Christian sermon

FYI - this should 100% be categorized as Christian/religion, not historical. By the time I stopped listening it had become a full blown sermon about the love of Jesus Christ etc etc - like, every sentence was like this. I tried to stick with it for the story, but the sermon slowly overtook the story until it was all sermon. I couldn’t take it anymore - not for me. If you like that type of book then you’ll love this, and the narrator was good, but there should have been some kind of indication it would be like that before I spent $ on it.
