Simply wonderful

The terminology suits the time period and some may find those terms “offensive” but frankly they are all terms of endearment filled with symbolic respect and community. The heart beat of this story is beneficial to all who read it and can glean its message of the value and elegance of multigenerational conveyance of wisdom for living, thriving and simply wringing out the simple joys of life.

Miss the good old days with papa..

I've read this book several times sthe age of 14. Just how the old man took the boy on many adventures, I now am the old man taking my grandson on adventure. A gem to hand down through the generations. Learn what life is supposed to be.

Great stuff except for the women bashing

this book is a combination of people coming of age in their young age and old age, and the wonders and beauties of being in God's country hunting and fishing and being part of the environment! I learned a lot about hunting and fishing techniques and cooking the wild game. and I liked the rhythm and nature of the prose. The story was heartwarming and at times a bit philosophical in a good way. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, although I did have to skip through some of the woman bashing, which did not seem like satire or hyperbole at times, but rather genuine. But this book is still worthy of a good read or listen and I stand better for having listened to this book.

Passing knowledge from the older to the younger generation

This is a great book about hunting, fishing, and life. It reminds me of my own life so far… 😁

Great story. It reminded me of my Dad

Lots of fun mixed in with deep thoughts on living
I feel bad for those who never enjoyed spending time with a role model in Nature

Wonderful book

I read this book 55 years ago and multiple times since then. Loved the audio version. This book transcends generations and is a great read.

A replay of my childhood

This book took me back in time to my upbringing with my grandfather. Papaw (Otis) was The Old Man and Mamaw (Ann) was Mrs. Lottie. Fortunately he lived until I was 51, so our hunts and fishing trips spanned many well-lived years❤️

Shared a lost way of living-shared the importance of family.

A period book that wraps the importance of teaching a child how to be an adult with the emphasis of the power of honesty , character and appreciation.
