About this listen

Restless, troubled Rosamond Hunter has spent most of her life running away from the past, filled with guilt about her involuntary role in her mother's death. When her nursing job brings her back to Fairfleet, her childhood home, to care for an elderly refugee, she is forced to confront the ghosts that have haunted her for so long.

Her patient, Benny Gault, first came to Fairfleet, England, in 1939, having fled Nazi Germany on a Kindertransport train.

As his health fails, he and Rosamond begin to confide in each other. At first their tentative friendship revolves around the love they both shared for Rosamond's glamorous grandmother, Harriet, but as their trust in each other grows, guilty secrets are exposed and history is turned on its head.

From the acclaimed author of Playing with the Moon and Restitution comes a beautiful and haunting tale of friendship, redemption and forgiveness across generations.

I Loved this book! The author was new to me...I took a chance because the synopsis sounded good. It was a GREAT story, very unusual with a very touching ending.
The narrators were excellent .I will certainly look for another book by this author.

This was a captivating and believable story. Gave me a lot to think about that there is an invisible story behind each person.

Captivating

This book was well written and the performance was very good. Need to pay close attention, many twists and turns to keep with to lead to an unexpected ending.

Good Story Telling!!

I didn’t like the story. It was ok at the beginning but towards the end, I found myself hoping for an ending that would redeem it but sadly, I was like, “That’s it?!!!”

So-so

I loved the entire story!! There were those twists and turns where truth is revealed as the story goes on but it doesn’t move too slowly. Not too fast either!! It’s just one of those books that has that perfect balance and I didn’t fast forward through anything!!

Great book

About 2 hours in I returned this book. I couldn't finish it. I actually let out a physical yell because I was so frustrated. The book started out interesting w/ a very short interaction of a female narrator in the present (present for the book); then switched to a male narrator for a longer period of maybe an hour which was interesting. Then things took a bad turn when they went back to the female narrator and the "present". Sooo boring. She had some kind of secret and she was not going to let the reader in on it and she was dragging that secret out for all that she was worth and this was really irritating because she was talking about nonsense & stuff like magazines on the dresser & what kind of flowers were in the garden, etc. I MEAN REALLY?!?!? Just get ON WITH IT!!! Thank you, I'm done. On to the next book.

Bored out of my mind
