About this listen

The USA Today Bestseller!

A stunning new historical novel perfect for fans of Kate Quinn and Dinah Jeffries!

From debutante to farmer’s daughter all roads lead to Bletchley…

In a different world, Evie Milton would have accepted her fate, married an aristocrat, and become the doyenne of one of England’s finest estates, just like her mother.

In a different world, Rose Wiley would have married her fiancé, David, established a modest homestead, and brought up a brood of babies, just like her mother.

But this isn’t a different world and these women are not their mothers. Rose dreams of a life filled with more than family and duty to her husband – a life of purpose – and Evie dreams of a life far away from her rarefied existence. Now, as they perform vital work at Bletchley Park decoding intercepted Luftwaffe messages, their role in turning the tide of war in the Allies favour shows Evie and Rose they don’t have to settle for the life once laid out before them.

Enjoyed this book and performance thoroughly!

A great story, well developed characters and perfectly narrated by Whillans and Wilde. I highly recommend it.

Ended too abruptly for me

I wanted to know what happened to the characters at the end and didn’t get this.

Good story but not great.

I got used to the narrator as some complained about her pauses and page turning. It was initially a bit weird, but her accents are good as is the other narrator. I’ve read so many World War II books with women as the focus characters. . This one was not particularly riveting as some of them have been., but it was good enough without dragging too much and I would recommend it.

Fishnets!

Loved this story. Amazing. It follows two women thru WWII and how their lives are changed- women getting jobs, changing roles, and dying nylons. I felt the growth in these women, tackling issues that resonate across generations and cultures. I like that we saw the flaws. It made them more real. Narrators captured the characters well. Some background noises at times but not too distracting. Couldn’t put this book down. Highly recommend. And here’s to the fishnets!

Women in WW II

I don’t usually listen to stories about the war, but this was a good one when women were deemed second class

Interesting Bletchley story

The pauses and background noise of the narrator was distracting. The story was good though.

I liked it more on the second listen

Heart warming historical fiction worth a listen. A bit old school. How professional women evolve.

Good Book

I liked this book a lot. The story line was good and I liked the characters. IMO the story did drag a bit with too much descriptive narrative. I would defiantly want to listen to more from this author.

What on earth is wrong with this narration???

While I loved the story, audible should be ashamed of the quality of this narration! It’s not that the narrator has a terrible voice or anything. It’s the BACKGROUND noise that you can hear consistently throughout the book. I can hear her turn pages. I can hear her sigh or take a breath before starting a new section. It’s as though I’m listening to someone read this story who is on the same room with me. It’s incredibly distracting. Please fix this! It should be an embarrassment to this poor author who wrote a wonderful book. I am willing to bet many listeners will not get through the first few chapters with the current narration, which is a shame because the story is compelling.

Hallmark level

With Bletchley Park and code cracking as the locus for this book I expected some complexity and intrigue. In the end just a vapid romance.
